    That only underscores that systems without strong central control and completely unsuitable for general public.
    Following KDE guidelines is of no use if user of your application has no KDE installed.

    Really? Why don't you go out on the streets and start killing everyone 70 years old or older?
    The chances are most of them were in some way associated with Nazi regime and helped build Nazi Germany back then.
    Remember, when you mention Nazis you most likely talk about ordinary soldiers ( even 95 % of SS members were ordinary soldier), soldiers who frankly weren't all that different than you. They did serve their Nation the best they could (millions of then dying) and sincerely believed in Nazi doctrine. There was nothing "inhuman" about them, certainly not more than there was about American GIs or British soldiers during second war.

    Real-time cut scenes?
    If one can make "cut scenes" generated at real time and affected by user input how is that different from "standard" in-game rendering?
    Cut scenes are almost always useless bullshit, why not just put people in control?

    Nvidia products offer much better value for the money ..

    So ? I know plenty of people who made and continue to make mistakes. They get punished for it in one way or another - should I discontinue my relationship with them just because they are fallible human beings?
    Same goes for Microsoft, I am sure they have done things, which weren't commendable, but in my opinion, their overall conduct was pretty decent.

    How can you say that? For you, maybe, but I became avid user of IE starting with version 3.1 and therefore directly benefited from having this software bundled with MS OS ( or other products.)

    You obviously have a problem with acknowledging that people CAN have radically different opinions than you. Your "facts" are unequivocal while my "subjective" opinions are simply bragging of a "drunken individual."

    One word: GPL. I vividly remember how much pain and bad press KDE folks got from FSF and GPL zealots. We are not talking here about some commercial entity trying to free ride on other people code.
    We are talking about freedom fighters like RMS actually going out of their way to disturb other peoples _free_ work simply because it failed to meet their criteria of freedom.

    No, I never felt threatened or oppressed by MS.
    Frankly, I feel the only reason I was able to afford a lot of hardware and software was revolution brought to this industry by MS folks.
    Remember Unix market? How stiff and out of reach with reality these companies were and still are.
    Bottom line:
    You argue that I and countless others are being robed of our freedoms by Microsoft.
    Funny thing, I don't feel that way and, my impression is that most people don't feel that way either.
    You do live in a different world.

    No way, it is simply an overblown editor ( equivlent of MS Word for programmers )

    GCC:
    C compiler - enough said. It has been ported to many platforms but it is still C compiler.

    Tex/LaText:
    This one is close. There are typesetting commercial system available but , well, you might have a point here.

    X11: MIT project , has nothing to do with OS

    Mozilla: Eh ... just another browser.

    I do not oppose legit issue people have with tabbaco corporatios advertising their stuff to kids.
    If anybody can find and prove this kind of practice going on, I am all for slapping masive fines on tabacoo boys.
    On the other hand, lack of personal responsibility cannot be blamed on people who simply provided legal product ( how many people in their twenties perfectly realise dangers of smoking yet still continue to do so ? )

    This is precisely the question that people should be asking every time they encounter somebody claiming how revolutionary Linux is.
    From the technological point of view, there is nothing there that has not been done before (often better.)
    Frankly, the only unique part is HOW it was developed but it has not much to do with the technology itself. We are not talking here about revolutionary new stuff ... Sure people managed to almost completely duplicate standard Unix platform without central management and often without funds but I fail to see how does it change anything.

    One cannot escape conclusion that OS model is good enough for duplicatinh stuff that has been done before (no need for research) but completely fails at introducing innovative solutions and ideas (please feel free to correct me here, but I have never seen truly innovative OS project - everything seems to be remake of some existing - usually commercial - application.)

    I wonder how much of this was "paid for" by people who did not even know what they were paying for.
    After all, tons of OS developers have a daily job and I am hard pressed to believe they restrain themselves from doing stuff during their working hours.

    You are comparing single company Microsoft to the entire OS/FREE community.
    How about comparing to Windows community (with thousands of excellent free or shareware apps)?
    Frankly, if we go that far why don't we include all these commercial apps available for Windows?
    After all this is the model Windows world operates on so it would be only fair to include them as well.
    So to summarize, compared to Windows community Linux is not much more than a small dot ...
