No doubt about it. Check cashing is a lucrative business. It's not just check cashing services either. A lot of pawn shops will cash your pay check for a ridiculous fee with minimal identification. Back in the early 90's I worked at a very old pawn shop in Houston for about a year. It was a terrible job that paid well but left me feeling like I always needed a shower. You basically just take complete advantage of people who are very desperate for money and who don't understand how much money you're charging them. Every Friday we'd get a flood of guys (many didn't speak English) coming in to cash very small paychecks that they worked very hard for. You would charge them 10% of what the check was and a surprising number of people were totally fine with that.

I wouldn't expect Korea to ask for the US to withdraw or want it. I think it would be more likely that in return for an end to the North Korean regime the US would come to an agreement with China that Korea would unify under the South's government, China would agree to not oppose the reunification or interfere in any way and the United States would agree to withdraw from the mainland within some mutually agreed time-frame. Essentially Korea wouldn't have a say in it. Now I can imagine a lot would be made of the US selling Korea down the river but seriously, China borders a lot of countries and it's not like they invade their neighbors all the time. Ok, you got Nepal and then there was that little dust-up with Vietnam a while back. I mean, it's not unheard of but I think they'd keep to their word as long as the US did. There's no good reason to maintain that mess with the two Korea's anymore not from our perspective or China's. With the kind of range that aircraft today possess it's not like falling back to Japan would leave Korea hanging. a US-China conflict is going to be all aircraft and missiles anyway so seriously doubt either side wants that.

I think at this point China wouldn't have anywhere hear the concerns they had 60 years ago with a unified Korea provided that unification got an agreement from the US to withdraw from the mainland. The resulting "Korea" would be a competitor but not a military threat and it would be a competitor that was saddled with the cost of trying to absorb the North. I think that the US pulling back to Japan would be well worth the trouble of shutting down "Best Korea".

I think he's every bit is incompetent as your post portrays him though so I think he tried to fill out the already carved in stone narrative with bad ideas not knowing the difference between good ideas and bad ones anymore.

"Hope and Change" sound good to a lot of people and I suspect that more people know that their government is fucked up than many of us think. They just don't know what to do about it. Red or Blue, pick your poison. Neither party is offerring any real solutions. Obama just played the outsider well enough to win the election last time and then proceeded to be just like everyone else whose run for President in the last decade or two. My wife and I both voted for Obama simply because we were intensely dissatisfied with what GWB had done and what we thought McCain would continue to do if elected. I'm of the opinion that the Republicans are "broken" and while I mostly don't agree with the Democrats I can't see how continuing to vote Republican ever gives them much reason to change. I voted for Obama to get his numbers up in a state he had no chance of winning in hopes that someone on the right might correctly interpret that to mean their supporters were dissatisfied.

New York City then the number of people who visit Houston will never increase while the number of things to see in New York City will continue to grow leading to more and more people visiting New York City. Funny how that works. People who live along the Gulf coast (save for the Florida portion) or in the center of the country get to drive to either the east or west coast if they want to see an orbiter. Actually, it was my experience that the police academy was an odd mix of high school bullies and the bullied. I was in law enforcement many years ago until I injured my back (at home, in no way work related or anything) and I noticed this right away. You expected to see the bullies there in some number and I guess the bullied makes sense too. What was strange to me was how they got along. The bullies accepted those same people they would have been abusing years before because they were on the same "team" so to speak. The formerly bullied felt like big men being in the company of the tough guys which changed a lot of their attitudes and not for the better. Everyone thinks police are bigots but the truth is actually worse than that. Black people think the police discriminate against them and not whites. Hispanics think the same thing. Whites think they're special and that they get better treatment. The reality though is that all cops are bigots. The only color they like is blue. To most of them "we are all equally worthless".

Apart from the "loosing" I kind of see what he's saying. You constantly hear that it's the content owners right to charge whatever they want for the content and that's true but the reality of the situation is that nothing has value greater than what people are willing to pay for it. Someone may believe that their "whatever" is worth $12 but if nobody is willing to give them that then they're just mistaken. Most of the pirates (downloaders, not uploaders) I know (myself included) pay for their accounts without any concern for anonymity. They pay for the account for faster download speeds and the ability to download multiple parts at one time. I use iTunes as well and don't mind paying for what I want there but I buy songs, not albumes. Episodes, not seasons. Movies, when they're on sale. That I'm willing to pay something to download a file (albeit from someone other than the rightful owner or at a discounted price from a legitimate source) says that there is a price that the public is willing to pay. I just don't think that the content owners/creators are too excited at the new price point. They better adjust though because it's not going away.
