It is rumored that 10.6 is going to be the end of PPC support. I suppose it's time, although there are some PPC machines that are less than 4 years old. Still, as bittersweet as it is, it's probably time to let go of the legacy code and firm up the OS. I'm happy running Leopard on my Frankenmac 1.8ghz (Sonnet upgraded).

A good analysis of this decision can be read at RoughlyDrafted Magazine.

Yeah. I used them for years until I got this Alltel phone. Paid about $20 every 2 months for minutes, occasionally breaking that if I made any calls. I don't care about ringtones, so that's no biggie for me.

I see nothing has changed with them. Good.

    Thanks for the info.

Where I work, we have free wifi. It's Directway/DirectPC, and it's so throttled (about 10k/sec average) that no one could possibly abuse it. Those who have tried have pretty much given up. At most, we have two or three people at one time who sit and drink their bottomless cup of coffee and use the wifi for more than a couple of hours, and that's usually during third shift when the place is dead anyway.

I signed a two year contract with Alltel in April of 2006, and find that I use my phone for text messaging 99% of the time. $55 a month (2 phones @ $110/mo, actually) is wayyy too much to pay for text messaging.

I'm going back to cheapo Tracfones when my contract is up; that is, if they still have the phones that only charge you units for sending and not for receiving texts.

And they never will again. It almost killed them in the mid 90s. Apple is NOT, nor never will be, a commodity box manufacturer. Their business model works and is highly profitable. Why would they change that to chase the cheapo enterprise and Wal-Mart PC market, especially since the margins on those boxes/laptops are so pathetic?

It's not ever gonna happen. PERIOD.

The principles (sp?) of that community wish to run it in almost a cult-like scientologist manner, with total control over the distribution of tables, executables, and all other files needed. They also clamp down on any sort of dissent on the forums. It's the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Years ago, Vintage Gaming wanted to distribute some of the files needed for vpinball, and they raised a HUGE stink about it. It was so laughingly pathetic, but there wasn't jack shit they could do but whine whine whine.

Thankfully, we have usenet and torrents, where I can leech all I want, without having to submit myself to the cult, their asshole "leaders", and that fucking forum.
