Our school system makes it easy to sort kids out based on their skills and ethnic and social background. After the 4th or 6th grade (when I attended school) the kids get a school recommendation for one of the three different school types with their grades at the end of the year. Parents have the freedom to disagree with the recommdation. In my opionion this leads to the following: Parents with an academic background sent their kids to either a "professional school" or a "secretaries school" and parents with a "ditch-diggers" background either accept the recommendation or they sent their kids to a school reflecting their own education background. So "ditch-digger schools" are made to collect all the low-income, no-education kids.
Another problen with our school system is this: More and more students who finish a "professional school" decide not to go to university and pursue an apprenticeship instead. And the companies offering apprenticeships like to take those "pro kids". This makes it harder for the kids from lower schools to get an apprenticeship.
I never attended a "professional school". My school recommendation wasn't that good either. I attended a "secretaries school" and finished it. I'm still a CS student at an University of Applied Sciences. Both my parents have an academic background.
some canadian (?) dude who was arrested by US feds while he was travelling via an US airport to another country. he sued and the US attorney argued that people only stopping at an US airport have no rights.
there was an article in the NYTimes about a year ago iirc.
I wouldn't say it is useless (works fine in Firefox) but there is no detailed map on streetlevel (Hannover, Germany). At some point the map area is gray (and doesn't reload detailed map data).
why not elect the Pres by senate or house majority? (i'm no expert in us politics) someone runs for pres, and if his party wins the senators or state representatives elect the pres with their party majority.
In germany you have to pay church tax if you are a member of the two state churches (they are kinda independent from the state, but their status as a church allows them to collect taxes via the income tax). You are a member if you are baptized or joined the church later on.
When I moved and went to the people office for registration they asked for my confession (well, I have none, just on paper...) and they shared the data with the next church community in the neighborhood I moved to. So I got the church community newspaper without signing up for it.
Once I earn enough money and would be required to pay church tax I will leave. The funny thing is, you can't leave the church in one of their offices. You need to go to a city office (the "standesamt"). Sometimes they even charge you a few bucks for that step.
not really. It might be true when trying to book online but I had no problems booking a ticket for the a german ICE to Cologne and a connection with the Thalys to Brussels at the train station ticket counter here in Hannover.
how many people allergic to cats would pay that price?
and it it doesn't protect them from encounters with regular cats - like those running around at friends houses. a non-allergic person certainly won't buy one.
is the cat DRM protected? is it allowed to mate and to run around outside? imagine a new breed of stray cats with that "feature"...
just get a good compact digital camera. just as handy as a cell phone with a better quality. So get off your low horse;) I have my Canon Digital IXUS 55 always with me. It fits easily into a pocket (just as a cell phone) and the quality is much better (even for random snapshots).
many people archive the mail junk from the last two or three years. most people don't reduce the mail they reply to (like removing useless.sigs, proper quoting,...)
I think office jobs are all about writing mails and discussing them by phone (note: over-simplification here) One day a co-worker announced his 1000 unread mail...

You can't compare Gallery to Flickr.
Gallery is nice, but...
a) Gallery without ImageMagick available sucks sucks sucks. My webhoster doesn't provide ImageMagick and the scaled down images made with the built-in GD look blurry. Flickrs photo scaling is worldclass. The scaled down images look clear and sharp. b) Only you and a few other people know about your site unless you some famous internet personality. c) Gallery is an photoalbum application while Flickr is a social photo sharing service. d) Gallery2 seems to choke on progressive saved JPEGs. You can't even delete them properly once you uploaded them... strange.
I do have a Flickr account and a Gallery2 setup. I used Gallery2 to upload visual experiments (like: look here for the crop you suggested) while discussing my photos within the Flickr service.
I wouldn't be surprised if for example the EU Commision is going to block that deal for Europe. Fining Intel and Skype for being anticompetitive... I'm sure AMD is going to complain.
Dexter isn't a movie, but they pretty much got the computer stuff right. Even the lab looked real (compared to CSI).
Actually high wages for parliamentarians are meant to make them less inclined to take bribe money (Theory here!!!)
Never The Same Color? ;)

Yes, if you believe the cinema marketing commercials here in Germany.

A highly successful Broadway production "The Producers" and a recent movie based that musical.
I met quite a few local people via Flickr.

I think I would place my laptop in a case inside the regular luggage.
;)
Same for camera equipment.
They will probably release the tight rules once the situation normalizes.
I think only fluids will be banned in the near future.
Theft could be a problem, if it gets lost the airlines reimburse on weight
and not on value (never lost my luggage, dunno).
Less personal junk in the airplane cabin could result in faster boarding
Should be released next year.

Interesting.
Not here in Germany.
You get a letter with a sealed paper sleeve containing the PIN. Usually a week after the ATM card.
Same for credit cards.
Ehh... You can choose your ATM PIN?
