  1. Congressional Elections on Ares I Rocket Rumored To Be Too Heavy · · Score: 1

For the most part you just described the last Congressional elections too.

  2. GPL/Open Source benefits Too! on Sun Open Sources Java Under GPL · · Score: 5, Interesting

I work for a LARGE government contractor and have had a hard time getting management to realize Open Source in general and the GPL in particular aren't bad for business. Open source here has the same connotation as red communism. Can't get many of them to stop calling it freeware. With Sun making Java GPL they won't have the choice of sticking with that attitude anymore. Many of our existing projects use Java already!

  3. Sounds Reasonable on Should Online Stores Be Subject To ADA? · · Score: 1

This sounds reasonable especially since Target is such a big retailer. It doesn't require too much effort either since Target could just provide an alternate "face" for the text readers.

  4. Bad Press on Ask a "Star" of HBO's Voting Machine Documentary · · Score: 1

If you haven't noticed, most of these issues are blown out of proportion. This is the media trying to "create" news instead of reporting it. Look at any system involving humans under a microscope and things look a little messy at the deepest levels. Ask questions? Sure? Demonizing poll workers, voting officials and voting machine companies is assenine.

    • The "Polish 17 chemical weapons -- definitely WMDs.
    • The Mosul Chem Lab -- inconclusive, straining credulity that none of Saddam's chemical weapons ever passed though there.
    • The Sarin Shell -- definitely a WMD.
    • The Mustard Shell -- not a WMD itself, but indicative of hundreds of shells known to be unaccounted for and later found to be 75% filled and usable WMDs.

  13. Liberty vs Freedom on US Slips Again In Freedom of the Press Ranking · · Score: 2, Insightful

I may not agree with a lot of that this organization says but.... The US makes a lot of noise about the importance of Freedom while at the same time fostering a system that is steadily eroding individual liberty. Just look at the size of the prison population and count how many police you pass on your way into work each day. Then ponder how many laws you are unintentionally breaking right now. A system where anyone can be nailed at anytime if they upset those in power (or are able to play the system).

Freedon :Freedom is the right, or the capacity, of self-determination,as an expression of the individual will.

Liberty: Liberty, or freedom, is a condition in which an individual has immunity from the arbitrary exercise of authority.
