why do you hang out on slashdot if you're an MS fan-person?

I hope you were joking. But if you are not, let me explain why you come off as an ignorant moron.

    1. Vast majority of /. readers are on Windows/IE. Check the statistics.

    2. Some of us are at work, hence are forced to use Windows.

    3. The screenshot was from a microsoft page on "security and privacy" running in an OSS browser. Get it? The joke is on you.

    4. Go buy yourself a clue, kiddie. Hating Microsoft is so last year. Get with the times. If you don't like it then kill yourself.

I'm really glad it did not go the way of Mozilla interface, which looks like Netscape. Part of the Mozilla trouble is just that. People presume it's the "old" netscape and are reluctant to keep it on their systems.

Furthermore, I love it how Phoenix does not integrate into your OS like a multi-headed hydra. Tabbed browsing is a plus. Still achievable with netcaptor on IE 5.x/6.x but not a native application.

This will be the browser I will use on Win2k when they figure out how to dock the google toolbar on it.

Also, many windows users confuse the IE loadtime with page render time. It's a common misconseption. I am sold on Phoenix.

BBC is the only mainstream outlet with the balls to cover linux in positive manner. CNN did feature few articles, but they never saw the light of day. It was dumbed down on few occasions and made sound like it was an indie/experimental OS. I hope that trend changes really quick, although I have my doubts that MSNBC will ever cover Linux developments in detail. Biased source.. you know the deal.

And from unrelated rants department, if I ever had the option to hang out with either Bill Gates or Linus Torvalds, I'd choose Gates.

I wish he was the prophet of linux community. He fits the nerd profile so well. It's heartbreaking that one of us is trying to destroy his kind of people.

In a perfect world, Bill Gates would fight Linus from the other side of the OS spectrum. Imagine how world would have been different if Gates didn't choose the dark side.

Could somebody give some insight why AMD is after adequacy.org?

Was it because of the humor article "Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?" where it said:

"If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel, use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip!"

Everytime you buy a CD that's on that record label listed, you directly finance the people who turn around and take away your fair use rights and civil liberties.

    Lets take a closer look.

Overwhelming majority of websites out there are not HTML 4.0/XHTML 1.0 compliant. Even the sites that belong to members of w3c bend the rules which they help write. Sounds asinine? You bet.

Standards do not mean s**t anymore. Everybody is aiming for IE 5.x/6 compatibility nowdays. Cross platform understanding is dead, now that Netscape has lost the overall war. Vast majority of web designers do not even double check their sites in Opera/Mozilla nowdays, thinking they might have to do some extra compatibility coding/clean-up.

Most sites are NOT cross device/platform. You cannot view them on a PDAs of cellphones. Notice the word _MOST_

There are millions of other reasons, but I have to run to a meeting. I'll expand on this later today in more detail.

Yes, in theory it sounds really exciting. People coming together to take on one of the greediest corporate helldemons out there, for the good of the land. But the sad reality is that 99% of people complain and never do anything about it. You would think the average American/European consumer who essentially has the say whether a given product/service is a "keeper" would be a vocal voice when it comes to asinine legislature. But people assimilate.

It could be justifiably compared to the nerdy kid and the schoolyard bully. You let him pick on you without fighting back, and just open the floodgates of abuse. RIAA has tested the waters, and they came to the conclusion that people will put up with their shit.

This just goes to prove the notion that indifference of the users to take any swift action is not an OSS centric problem. People from all walks of life use "portable music", and when the time comes to take a stand and rage against the machine, everyone just thinks they cannot make a difference on a personal level. It multiplies into millions of ignoramuses, and in turn empowers **AA to swing their dick in any preferred direction while knocking civil liberties around.

How long will it take before people realize that just by talking about it, evil will not just vaporize into thin air?

Copy protected CDs --> Idiotic Windows XP Authentication methods --> DRM --> Crippled hardware --> Palladium --> Microchips under your skin... what's next?
