Can you just imagine a beowulf cluster HOW-TO on paper? Well actaully if you're doing something that involves going into the kernel, having a printed copy is a must, IMO. Plus paper hurts your eyes less! ---
Soon microsoft will be up in arms about people pirating their "How To Use windows95" and "CD-ROM Installation Guide" handbooks. Somehow... I actually believe that myself. ---
And congress is wondering why American schools are behind the rest of the world: lack of goodstandardized tests, too much political correctness, and Microsoft. ---
In your case I guess, it is better not to use the preinstalled OS. But if all you are going to do with your new laptop is go on business trips once every few months, I don't think that another OS will do you much good. ---
IMHO, laptops are too unconfigurable to be of much use other than business trips. Also, not having sound is quite horrible. Why bother with linux on it when you can just use the preinstalled OS and use linux at home?
Is it really that important to run linux everywhere? ---
Oh come on! Am I THAT bad? This was just too good a joke to pass by... gimme a break... Hey at least I'm not squashing watermellons like that Gallager guy! ---
...that I can sue my ISP for not giving me a 2mb/sec speed average all the time? I don't think so;)
How fast i went once --- really proud of that speed! ---
Well DooM and Wolfenstein 3D started it all. Especially DooM.... I think that Sim City and Civilization are very large steps in the gaming world but you can not forget DooM. I remember the days when the bullets flew right to the targets without you aiming;) ---
In a capitalist society the big companies get a lot of power. On the other hand in a communist society the government gets a lot of the power. So as long as you're a big company or the government you should be OK.
is that it tries to get too much done at once. This makes it very unstable (from personal experience). KDE does have a few bugs but it seems to me like there are less. This is just what I have seen from experience so I don't want this to turn into another "KDE is better/worse than GNOME" fight. ---
you'd be surprised as to what you can do with a pad of paper...! Make paper airplanes(try doing that one with your palm pilot)! Also, a pad of paper won't break if your dog grabs it in his teeth and drags it around the house. Simply go to CVS and buy another one for $1.50! Paper is good for wrapping your used gum in (have you ever tried to wrap your gum in a palm pilot?). Personally I prefer an mp3 player for listening to mp3s.
As i said in my previous post, if you really feel like you need it, go ahead and get one. Just don't go out and buy one if you're not sure you will use it a lot. ---
...saw the use for these things. In my opinion a pad of paper and a pencil cost much less, are faster to use, and are more reliable. Plus there's almost no chance of a pad of paper getting stolen. Unless you're going to do a lot of work on one of these and you are sure you will need it, don't get it! ---
That's actually not a bad idea. Now potheads and acidmunkies can add flourescent lights to their collection of lava lamps and those funky glowing mushrooms! ---
Well, all I know is that he got pissed when people wouldn't pay him for his BASIC program. Just throwing in my two cents worth.
O yea... and I DO think that this represents how he feels about freeware (along with the other things he has said over the years.) ---
Well, I don't think that all software should be open source. If people want to make money off it, then they should. I just think that Open Source should be encouraged more often in today's computer society. ---
Wasn't Bill Gates one of the first people ever to oppose open source? I think it was when people "pirated" copies of his Little Basic and he asked for money in return:-P ---
"Easy to remember" means remembering your own name. "Easy to remember" means basic rules of addition. This is more like "painstakingly difficult to remember under any circumstances." I'll stick to using my calendar, thank you very much! ---
MTV-esque? Well, in my opinion MTV has gone down the hole. Instead of it representing teen rebellion and fun it now represents corporate BS. (Or did it always?) Anyway, I prefer movies with a little more class... ---

...isn't there a way to make the client's version response be what the server wants sit to be if you're running an open source client?

Well now that George Dubya is in office you can ask "Is there INTELLIGENT life in the Oval Office?"
[sorry couldn't resist]
