Is it just me or was anyone else disappointed that their use of the acronym "NOBRA" was only used in relation to a bunch of fat guys on minicarts, instead of say...*cough*. heh.
My university also uses Banner, but I am still not able to log in there (you really had my hopes up for a second there). I'm not sure why this is. On the plus side, I can finally log into my bank's internet banking service, which previously locked me out. So now I can figure out how much money I owe the school, but I can't check my grades. =)
Close. If you read the website, you have to make a user account on the guy's page (by submitting your password to the bot), but you actually have to export and submit your buddy list on the website once you get logged in.
Personally, I think the biggest problem other than ugly looking fonts in X is the fact that installing fonts requires one to restart X. Could someone explain to me why this necessary and why other X fonts servers haven't fixed this yet?

The big problem is punishment for cheating. How do you stop a cheater? Kick him out? So he comes back with a new account and continues. You need a way to identify a user. The problem is any ID system will be open to comprimise aswell. The big casinos come down to using people to recognise other peoples faces, and you can't do that online.
If people are going to be gambling online, chances are they're going to have to be paying via CC. Why not use a hash of the credit card number as the unique identifier? Seems like a pretty good way to keep people tied to a single account, and not much risk of exposing the actual card numbers to the outside world.
You're right; unfortunately, I think the real test of American gullibility is yet to come. Assuming that Bush actually finds WoMD in Iraq, it "justifies" whatever military action is being taken in Iraq, and it will essentially guarantee him re-election.
If not, I think the odds of him being re-elected are pretty high. Most people support the war now (according to popular polls, certainly my personal experience doesn't agree with those). Also, recall what happened after the Afganistan conflict -- nothing. We didn't take really any effort to rebuild their government, other than reinstating the Northern Alliance, who's history was even shadier than the Taliban's. Also, we never accomplished our secondary objective, which was the elimination of bin Laden. Yet, nobody really seemed to mind at all.
Both the Afganistan and Iraqi conflicts have one alarming similarity: both of these conflicts were started by Bush to eliminate one person who he believed to be a major threat to the security of the United States. For this reason, both of these conflicts have been effectively inconclusive (well, we have yet to see in Iraq, but I do not suspect a nice happy action-movie type ending here).
I know this is a joke, but does exchange really need IIS to function? I know some of outlook's features rely on exchange, so this wouldn't really surprise me all that much.
I still listen to records. I love the sound and audio quality they produce. I don't spin, but any DJ that does still heavily depends on this technology.
For that matter, CD's have aged pretty well. When you think about it, they've been around for the better part of 2 decades, and desipte several attempts to replace them or phase them out, they are still around (minidiscs, anyone?).
I've got Jar-Jar's head on a stake in my front lawn. Much more pleasing to the eye, imo.
I've heard the NY Times editors have taken to reading slashdot. Expect a dupe of this story on their frontpage in a day or so.
It seems to me that the RIAA should hire the Iraqi Information Minister on to their PR department. I think he'd fit in great there.
"The music-pirating infadels shall fall to their knees at the hands of our lawyers! Our profits shall be restored once more!"

I thought that was the point of the slashdot friends/foes/freaks system...

I think your lack of formatting is enough incentive for me to go ahead and register right now.
nono...Thursday is for sendmail. We'll pencil in samba on wednesdays.
ok, flame on. =) I forgot about the xset fp rehash. doh!

Shuttle Data Recorder May be Key to Accident
;)
I somehow doubt that the data recorded caused the shuttle accident. Perhaps they mean to say "finding the CAUSE of the accident"?
Myth Or Moneymaker?
Who says it can't be both?

Note: grousing about rejected submissions is Offtopic and usually gets moderated that way. It happens, don't take it personally.
Well, your story got rejected, but at least your grousing didn't!

What does "A" stand for then?
I'd rather be able to kick back and drink a beer and read. Can't do that with a 19" CRT.
What type of nerd are you?!
The technology is being licensed to an undisclosed startup.
So THAT's what Dick Cheney has been up to this entire time!

Write the RFC then we'll tell you the percentage.

Shit, I should go change my root password now.
completely agree. I indent with 1 space, and it looks fucking beautiful.

Too bad I already got the movie on fan-sub as a gift, otherwise i'd get it when it came out on dvd
Ahh, what better present than pirated movies. It's the gift that keeps on giving (or should that be taking)...
