What exactly was th 'theoretical' vurnerability? I've searched for it, but everywhere there is just the quote, not any reference to what it was all about.
I'm sure they won't, but it makes me wonder if current games have similair backdoors/debugging-modes wide open. Remember that this was discovered almost half a year after Quake 2 was released, and had been in QuakeWorld even longer.
iD might have learned their lesson, but have the others learned?
(And I still think the 'feature' is kinda suspicious because of the filtering of the source address. No need for debug code to have such a thing? Still feels more like iD knew it was there, and were forced to remove it when finally found out.)
(But they still make killer games. No doubt about it. Looking forward to Doom3.)
...because here you have to pay at least $1 to get ringtones and the ever-popular operator logos (I don't know if you have the same thing in the U.S.) - and that's not all. Teenagers often change these several times a week just to follow the newest trends. An entire business model has grown up because of this demand. And, ironically, it seems to work better than any of the plans from now-dead dotcoms ever did.
Uhm...just how exactly did you get that old 386 to recognize your brand-new 40GB drive? I'm not doubting the fact, I just wonder how you did it, since even my not-so-old Pentium has problems with disks above 8GB..
What do DivX and pirating have to do with region coding? Even without the zones people would still pirate movies.
In fact - this region scheme was created when the DVD format was made -WAY before anybody ever thought of copying/ripping DVDs - remember that until DeCSS came along, DVDs were thought to be copy-proof. So zoning is most definitely made to piss us off - and to make the MPAA more money.

Why? They had to realize people would hate the system, but still they made it up. So in my opinion they made it to piss us off.
