It's an adapter/dongle, not a cable. It's the same shape adapter/dongle as VGA, and other adapters/dongles. The cable plugs into it, which is supplied separately.

There are people that I have spoken to that have such a light 'r' that it's nearly completely 'ah', and at the same time cant seem to speak some words without nearly eliminating the vowels, or making it choppy and cupping their mouth... I figure it this way, slow down just a little and enunciate.
That is the reason I use Google Voice for my phone number, and have since 2006. I've walked through nearly 5 phones since then, and have thought of them as nothing more than dumb terminals when it comes to the phone feature. Lots of awesome features with Google Voice.
I'm thinking you're missing the ecosystem of the iOS operating environment. It's a choice people make, and if you don't like it then you can just not use it. It's by far not a false dichotomy... by very nature if it's open then the user can freely place untested things onto the device. For those that want to not worry about what goes onto their phone or iPad, this is what's desired. If you want Linux (or ubuntu) on your phone, go for a phone that does not have that.

Unfortunately, the alternative is something different, which is not what's desired by said person. The only thing missing is the ability to extend the operating system further, so that's what this is.

Damn dude.. I mean, I don't know if your in a foreign country or what but I use Chase bank and pretty much everything is free for me. I use ATM/debit for free, yes. Unlimited use. I'm sure Bank of America, and a bunch of other banks are the same... it's not like Chase bank is abnormal in that respect.
AM/PM (Arco) is all over Las Vegas, NV & Phoenix, AZ... Some of them in Phoenix do not charge an extra fee for plastic. Though, those are the exception unfortunately.
Stuff that hasn't been done already is being done on a regular basis... it's just not on the news unless it's cool factor is on the scale that a person coming home from a day of plumbing work would get something out of it.
