  1. 1C Accounting software on Non-English Programming Languages? · · Score: 1

There is at least one "russian" programming language. 1C Enterprise is common accounting software across Russia and its neighbors (incl. Latvia). Our company provides 1C localization in Latvia.

So-called "built-in language" of 1C Enterprise in fact is based on Russian. There is also "english" form but seems nobody uses it. Unfortunately, slashdot doesn't use unicode. I'll post some links to code examples:

As far as we (me and my dad) know no chips or computers were purchased from "the West" before 1980's. We developed and manufactured clones of 360, PDP, VAX and others instead. They were software-compatible with Western ones but contained only Soviet (and other Eastern Europe) components.

Later we got VAXen (I remember two of them), Macs (no personal experience) and IBM PC.

I wrote four scripts for this purpose -- two for tar/split/tar of messages and another two for mount/cp/umount. Floppies are extremely unreliable these days, I've used two disks for redundancy.

All of my neighbours had no Internet too, I planned to "connect" them too. And then things changed. We got broadband connections.

Long time ago I heard rumors that some organizations transferred their email this way for security reasons.
