Well...Email.com is a nice free service that includes the ability to auto-forward mail to another address. A feature I find very useful since I can change ISP's without having to send out one of those annoying, 'Hey everyone, here's my new email. Please update your blah, blah, blah...', messages that everyone ignores.
Another nice by-product is the ability to turn off forwarding while traveling so you can pick up your mail via the web...
That may be a simple solution for you and I but Jane Sixpack will still be nagged into signing up for Passport - never realizing that she doesn't really need it to access the net. This is the root of the issue. Most people aren't aware of alternatives. They'll just get XP on their new puter without understanding that their personal information may be compromised in the process of using it. This is the real reason for the FTC to step up - to protect people who don't know any better. Not to help those of us who can help ourselves.
I use netBEUI to isolate our NT data servers. Even if a hacker were to get through our firewalled NT DSL router, they'll only see the workstations that have access to the net. Our critical data should be safe since it's only accessible via a non TCP protocol.
Of course, we're fine with a very small, non-routed network. No plans to upgrade to XP. If it ain't broke, I ain't fixing it. Guess MS will have to wait to get my next $0.02.

The core issue is, dont try to walk your way to the desktop by making [almost as good] replicas of existing desktop software. Instead, offer something better!
Hmmm... isn't free, (or close to it), a pretty nice feature? It was, after all, the reason that the author's client chose RedHat over Win2K. Obviously, they had a (somewhat) unique situation where they were able to convert their entire system to Linux. And they saved about 10 grand in the process. Good for them -- wish I was in a position to do the same!

SPECIAL FEATURES Because of the employment of the Signetics' proprietary Sanderson-Rabbet Channel the 25120 will provide 50% higher speed than you will obtain.
