The problem with M$ is that their approach was more along the lines of:
"Rocks are out? Hammers are in? Let's make a Hammer!" and they went and built a hammer-shaped rock. duh.

I always thought the idea was that you can still scroll even when the window is too large to fit on your screen (windows grow to the right), whereas with the scrollbar on the right you first have to resize then scroll.

Of course this is now less of an issue with scroll wheels and such.

Ironically the interface in NeXTSTEP still is more consistent and makes more sense in many aspects than OS X.

Like having scrollbars to the left side of the window makes a lot of sense, also having the close button to the right while minimize and shade buttons are at the left and such. Yes it is radically different from what we Mac users are used to, but that probably why S.J. called it NeXTSTEP.

BT is not used by much of anything yet...

Except for some phone which might be of immense value to some.

FW800 is a waste. Standard firewire doesn't use all the bandwidth available (sound familiar).

Did you know that there are FireWire RAIDs, you can build them by daisychaining or better get an enclosure for an eight drive FW RAID. I bet you WILL max out FW 400.

802.11g will not let you surf the net faster. Moving files from one machine to another on your subnet might go faster.

Wrong. Here in Tokyo 100Mbps Fibreoptic connections to the internet are widely available (ca. 5000 yen/month). Although most of them will max out at about 30 to 40 Mbps, this is still about three to four times of 802.11b. So it will be faster for your browsing having AirPort Extreme.

For some incomprehensible reason they will still support darwin on x86... isn't that also covered by the Apple license, you might ask. Yes and that's why the GNU Darin people are morons. They say:

"hey we have a problem with Apple and the way they do things, so to punish them we are only going to use their software covered under their license on a different platform" ... well, duh.

Every new Mac I've bought so far couldn't boot into any OS older than the most current one at the time of purchase (that's partly due to the fact that they put hardware support into those most recent version for the new machines). My old 7600 could only boot into 7.5.3 and upwards. A long time ago I wanted to install KanjiTalk 7.1 just to find out that I can't.

So with OS X Apple have been nice and done you guys a favour, still letting you boot into 9.x, that time is now over and I think Apple is right taking that step. They can't go on pouring resources in supporting new hardware on a dead OS. Everything has to move to OS X sooner or later, and Apple aren't Microsoft, so they don't have 50 idle Programmers hanging around that they could delegate to look after 9.x and supporting it for years to come. For me 9.x can't be dead enough. And QuarkXpress 5 runs fine in Classic AFAIK. Then if you ouput on a Postscript compliant printer or film recorder WTF is the problem with switching to OS X??
