Swing/AWT is not slow, it's just that there are lots of incompetent programmers out there making Java look bad. Many things are not hardware accelerated becouse of stabillity issues, if you want you can enable OpenGL and DirectX accelerations. The plattform Look'n Feel is improving with every release, 1.6 beta2 looks nice in GNOME and XP for me. What other choise do we have?.GNU? hardly keeping up. Mono? Still lacking many 2.0 features!
I realy think this move will put more pressure on Microsoft, hopefully (in my dream) they will release.NET/C# opensource too. Just to keep up with Java.
Did you think that Intels days where numbered back in -98 when AMD first released it's Athlon series, compleatly wiping the board with Intel!?! Of course not!

eeh, don't know got HP from. AMD designed and RELEASED the Opteron a couple of month ago.
And G5 iis _NOT_ the first nor fastest 64-processor!
