I don't like waiting all weekend to download my songs to an MP3 player. With a 20 GB hard drive it will take like 15 hours to transfer an entire HD worth. No iPod killer yet.

  4. 2 sides to this on Who Owns Your Culture? · · Score: 1

Well, I see two opposing sides to this, from the Maori point of view. First of all, white man has pretty much caused the loss of their culture in New Zealand. They are desparately struggling to regain knowledge of their language.

On the other hand, Maori culture != polynesian culture. It is possible to discuss all sorts of "Polynesian Culture" without mentioning anything specifically about "Maori Culture".

  7. Re:YAY! but... on USB 2.0 Spec Is Final - Up To 480 MB/s · · Score: 1

The use of firewire clearly has a lead on USB 2. I like USB for what
it does now (modems/mice/"slower" serial comm). I like FireWire for
what if does now (CD-RW/DV/Hard Drive/"Fast" comm). Every day more
FireWire products are coming out and being baught in this "Fast" comm
arena. The serious players from manufacturers (Apple/Sony) to
professionals and power users know that they can go out and buy stuff
that is already better than USB 2.0 today. I just don't see any
reason to continue down the road of something that is already too late
    to market.

  8. Windows Media Player Beta For Linux on RealNetworks Licenses MS Windows Media Codec · · Score: 2

About 1.5 years ago, there actually was a beta Windows Media Player released for Linux. There was a web site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/down load/unix.htm) which is now defunct. I probably even have the beta somewhere, but it didn't work very well. The page always said "come back here soon to see future releases of Windows Media Player for Linux".

  13. The Pirate Menace on TPM movie reel stolen · · Score: 1

I saw Phantom in Colorado on Thursday. On Sunday (7am) I landed in Malaysia. By noon, I had a copy of The Phantom Menace on Video CD. Cost about US$2.50, with a professionally pressed and designed CD and sleeve. Talk about a fast pirate! Of course, it was shot on camcorder, you hear the audience throughout the movie. I went out on the street on Tuesday in Malaysia to find out there is already a 2nd generation version that is supposed to be "clean" (no audience). Hell, they have movies on Video CD out here that aren't even in theatres yet in the US!
