  1. Re:The best part is, on A $1 Billion Email Gaffe · · Score: 1

PGP keys are often chosen at the same time as recipient email addresses, and automatically as well. Otherwise, it's just too much of a usability hassle to stick, except for the email messages which truly demand secrecy.

Only a decent proof-read of the letter would prevent this. The webforum crowd, even at slashdot, cannot hold a person to be anything like diligent in proofing.

I heard it was just 'Inuit'; as in, that's the plural too. Like Deer, moose, mail and email, some words are also their own plurals -- for those who live outside the trailer park.

I asked a buddy to build me a new system this year because I was too busy. Sometimes it's not only those who cannot fix a computer who will ask for help from this guy.

Thankfully, my buddy knows not to install unrequested software onto my machine. Not consulting first is a serious breach of ethics, in my books.

Hell, you seen these kids just trying to write English? snprintf() is worlds harder to manage than, say, the word 'theirs'. They haven't a chance!

Yeah, so XBox can't compete wish PS2 outside of the states, sure .. but MS doesn't need to compete with TiVo outside of the states: Tivo hasn't taken that remarkably foreign step of recognizing other countries. Currently, Tivo's only the king of DVRs in what is, globally speaking, a minority market.

  6. Re:gah on Builder.com Writers Outsourced to India · · Score: 2, Interesting

Have you *seen* how some native speakers of english write? It's almost an insult.

I've almost given up on newsforge because of the grammatical and spelling errors in its articles; they're really declining. (Most newsforge writers apparently cannot reproduce that sentence, for instance, without writing "it's" or "their"; usually both.)

Maybe I should change my locale preferances to only list 'en' and no longer include 'en_US'. Would site designers know that regular English requires writers who're targeting readers over the age of 9 to distinguish between 'their' and 'there'?

My boss is Indian. Her boss, my former boss, is Indian. They write English beautifully. In fact, all my immigrant co-workers write wonderfully, unless they're in 'ICQ' mode. It's the ones born on this landmass that need the refresher!

I'd probably suggest that your production was almost cut in half - that's if the number of lines of code (hastily) written is any metric to swear by.

Also, Managers of groups of one often get marked as redundant. What was your company doing making you lead a team of two? Isn't that 5±2 people short of a real team? Shouldn't you be nervous right now, or do you work for IBM?

Yeah, what's new? Compare the PPTPd (PoPToP) RPM, which provides a SPEC-file diff like:

    + we packaged this

And that's it. No Thanks, Mr We-just-lifted-your-work for all the effort, no mention of anyone else. Did anyone ever think that this kind of petty theft - of SPECs - wouldn't escalate into an all-out IP Theft case?
