Congratulations. The thread you've started has reconstructed the entire plot line of "Space Cowboys", "Armageddon", and "Deep Impact." I hope your happy. Don't expect a Christmas card.

I will NOT have this technology ruined by idiots who seem to believe it's better to have grainy shitty picture and audio on their television... "OOOooooh, but it's on the television, not the computer monitor... Neeeeeato...." GO TO HELL AND LEAVE MY DVD PLAYER ALONE!

It doesn't matter if you think your actions are correct. You've given up a piece of your personal soverignty to live here, as we all have just to remain citizens. We are obligated by that to endure any punishments the leaders we have elected decide to bring down upon us. In other words, if you don't like it: move. (What a horrible sounding argument). My argument here is that it is not wrong to break the law, but it is wrong to try to avoid any punishments that you may receive as a consequence. In other words, the law has no moral compass.

I don't think the fear was bankruptcy (at least not initially). But, since Europe may be allowing software patents in the future, bankruptcy may become a concern for os developers and a concern for the os community in general.

I'm not terribly familier with the problems you have presented (I.E. I know what a monte carlo alogorithm is, but not the radiative heat transfer part...), but it sounds to me like you're trying to fit the problem to the solution and not the other way around. OOP can be useful if you're trying to model something, or replicate the behavior behavior and characteristics of a real world problem, but it's not that great for say, solving a system of equations... I guess you can use whatever language or system you would like, but not many need C++ and the STL to evaluate expressions.
