> The number [of violations] will be way less because we've done some dramatic things [to improve security] in the code base. Apple hasn't done any of those things.
This statement is borderline libelous. Just the facts, please. Well, in a lawyer-logic kinda way, he's right. Apple has done NONE of the exact things Microsoft has done to their OS. Like, if Microsoft fixes a flaw in their security that doesn't exist on a Mac, then obviously Apple has not, nor will it ever take that step. Can't you see how risky it is to pick a Mac, which didn't benefit from years and years of exploit expertise? Would you want to risk getting infected on a machine without any known exploits? You should really pick the one with a lot of known exploits... better go with the devil you know!
[end lawyer logic]
I'd rather pick the one where holes are patched before they're exploited, but that's just me.
Frankly, I don't care about motivations. If you put out a bounty for an open source project, no one gets upset. Why should this be any different? Why? Because this isn't like an open source project at all.
This is like Microsoft paying for a report stating that open source projects cost more and don't work. This is big business investing in FUD, this is information pollution: Noise meant to hide information which they fear.
I should point out that Gates is rich *on paper*. I'm sure he frets about that, at night, in his giant mansion...
BTW, do you keep your money in the bank, on in a pile of gold? Because I personally am not completely at ease with the fact that "my money" is just a number in some corporation's database.
Software patents doesn't seem to have anything to do with who invented anything, it is about who first comes up with patenting something and get the application in. That's not new.
A lot of what Edison is credited with inventing was invented by someone else, but patented by Edison. There's the case of Tesla and the radio... it's an old scam.
(ignoring that Quebec French is significantly different the French spoken elsewhere.) 1- Most movies are dubbed in "international French". 2- The $language spoken in $locale is significantly different from the $language spoken elsewhere.
Aside from that, total agreement on all fronts. Right on.
I see at least 1 movie in theaters per week, often two. I used to do that!
pay $11 to sit through 5 tv commercials followed by 6 trailer commercials as well as about 8 studio commercials. And this is why I don't anymore.
I honestly can't make a call here. I'd like to assume that all marketers are terrible people lacking ethics, moral restraint, and any worth. However, not knowing any marketers personally I can't claim they are swampy morasses of evil. Marketers have moral restraint like surgeons fear blood;)
I'm kind of over-weight myself... I'm working on it... sorta. I never claimed the answer would be easy... I'm just identifying the problem for what it really is. Working out and being more active to "compensate" for the enormous amount of food we take in doesn't leave much time with family, friends or work. It's nearly impossible to work out enough to compensate for the diets most of us indulge in... just eat less. Oh, dear gods, man!
I work out a few minutes a day, but mostly, I do stuff. Go play with the kids and the friends! Working out is a chore, no wonder you can't do a chore enough to compensate for the joy of eating. Don't work out, do fun stuff that involves moving around. It took me a while to find something I liked enough that I'd think once a week isn't enough, but I did, and my health's all the better for it. I also adjusted my diet to phase out fast food (not completely, you have to enjoy life, ya know), which is a big difference in and of itself (stop drinking pop/soda/coke/whatever you call it, you'll loose 15 pounds within the year just from that).
what the hell is the marketing department doing? Are they *that* ethically challenged? Or is it that they are *that* desperate to be cool and loved? How about a policy of honesty Their job. Yes. That's their job. That would be the anti-thesis of marketing.
Apple claims that problems like that come up only seldom but anecdotal evidence out there suggests that is bullshit if you are a power user. So, it's not seldom because a portion of a minority of users have this problem? Do you even know what "seldom" means?:)
I'm being bombarded with tips, tricks, tutorials and balloon tips what I can and can't do. There isn't even a checkbox anywhere, that I have the possibility to tell the System that "Yes, I have used Windows before and I would not like to receive any notification [about new features]." This is the thing that frustrates me -- the System is so in my face the whole time, that it distracts me from the work I'm supposed to do, instead of babysitting the computer. There is a way: You have to create a registry entry called EnableBalloonTips and set it to 0.
This is why I HATE microsoft and love apple: Apple does not, by default, spam you with useless crap. Microsoft not only annoys you non-stop, it makes the possibility to stop it a freaking hack! It's a GUI feature with a non-GUI interface, fer cryin' out loud! These folks are either incompetent, insane, or evil. Most likely the latter two.
As a a person with good old-fashioned red/green colourblindness [...] if I see a red shirt, I know it's red and not green. Green lettering on the red shirt would likely be completely readable.
However, I seldom see purple. Usually it looks blue to me. So. By "red/green", you meant "purple"?
As soon as we have those, socialism will be practical and ethical in our society too. Awwww, whoz the cute wittle parrot of ideology? You! Yes you are... yes you are!
Y'know, call me crazy, but... Does anyone else find this entire situation somewhat unbelievableas a "kidnapping"?
In child kidnapping cases that don't involve a parent or close relative, they either: A) Recover the child within a few days, or B) Recover the body within a few months. Ok: You're crazy.
You forgot the very usual C) The kid just vanished and is never heard from again.
You also fail completely to take the Stockholm syndrome into account, not to mention the fact that the kid was found after someone tracked down the van that was seen speeding away from where another kid was abducted, along with that other kid.
The rest of Canada don't watch a lot of movies from Quebec, but then, they hardly watch their own either. Big money lies in big markets. Canadian movies are usually made to appeal to that big market down south. So they end up with all the originality and edginess of a Hollywood movie, and the budget value of a Canadian movie. i.e. cheap and bland. Talented people make for exceptions, but this is showbusiness, and businessmen call the shots: Spend less, sell more.
If there are also really independent artists selling their music on the iTunes Store, then Apple of course only needs the permission of the artists...
I haven't been keeping up to date on his lack of affiliation, but Jonathan Coulton, last I checked, was such a case. Good, nerdy music, check him out:)
music from independent labels without DRM (and that of course with the labels agreement). Why would independent musicians need a permission from some label they are independent of?
From TFA: If it is genetic, then procrastinator should be protected under discrimination laws, like vets, the blind, etc. "You can't charge me interest or penalties on my unpaid income tax! I'm disabled by GPD." ( Genetic Procrastination Disorder )
Right! We need to organize a lobbying campaign right away...
See, I always saw the Klingons as metaphors for the Russian/Communist threat, the Romulans as a metaphor for espionage, and the Borg as a metaphor for socialism. [...]
The Borg were very simply an overpowering force that sought to equalize and harmonize the universe at the expense of individuality and free expression. I 5hink that describes socialism pretty well, don't you?;)
Oh, and the Borg are not cyborgs. They are merely "organically challenged".:P The klingons are space-vikings. They started out very roman-empire like, but that was before... the Romulans, with their eagle insignia and their empire and the fact that they're from freakking Romulus and Remus. The Borgs are the fear of loosing our humanity to progress... the dehumanisation of technology... just listen to Styx's Mr. Roboto already.
As for socialism. Dude, they have no money in the Federation, the entire earth found peace through socialism, no more money, no more religions, just a peaceful world filled with workaholics.
What a strange country you must live in and you must not have travelled at all. [...] people order coke in cans because funnily enough you can't buy it in anything else but cans or bottles. What strange land do you live in?
being comfortable with both measurements, Fahrenheit allows me to predict a little better what it will feel like when I walk out the door. Funny, Fahrenheit is the only unit I find totally meaningless (I also can't spell it without software help).
I can relate to inches and feet because I have feet and thumbs, pounds and miles are easy to convert with simple math (2.2 pounds in a kilo, 1.6 km to a mile), but plus five divide by nine or whatever the three-step conversion of units is for temperatures leave me dumbfounded.
metric was designed for science, imperial was designed for "normal" use. While metric designates zero degrees and 100 degrees the freezing and boiling points of water, imperial ties them to a reasonable estimate for the coldest and warmest days in a temperate climate zone. Is this "reasonable estimate" made during a period of sustained cold weather, or a period of warm temperatures? Should Texas be the first to move to SI units, since they are not in a temperate climate zone?
The ONLY reason to stick to the imperial units is because change is hard. For the rest of the world, cm, meter, kilo, are all intuitive, as much as feet, inches and pounds are to you.

Same deal.
However, I seldom see purple. Usually it looks blue to me. So. By "red/green", you meant "purple"?
All that recycling... So very post-modern.
