- Multisession persistence - the only character stats that improve over the course of a game are guns, and somewhat health and armor. There's especially a lack of persistence in multi-player FPS. What if I were to play an FPS today, and improve my character, log out, and log in tomorrow with those improvements? FPS Diablo for example. You're talking about Planetside. As you level up, you get new skills to use different weapons, vehicles, etc.
- Worldspace - FPS are still limited in "level" size. It takes tens of seconds to minutes on comuputers to load a map, and once it's loaded, you're stuck within the confines of that map. What if, instead, you logged into a world and the world area around you was loaded, and the world continued to be dynamically loaded as you moved around? In current games, you can't play a map much bigger than a few buildings; what if instead you could drive from New York to LA (Or at least New York to New Haven?) Not exactly an FPS, but the latest few Grand Theft Auto games are like this. The only thing missing is building interiors; when you walk into a building, it has to load in that "level".
Does this mean that it's unconstitutional to ban the sale of Playboys to minors? Honestly, I'm confused here. I'm all for freedom of speech and all that, but this was a ban on selling "extremely violent or sexual games" to minors. I'm guessing this is AO rated stuff, which could be comparable to nudie mags (Playboy Mansion?). What's the big deal?
I find it difficult to give a good rating to a story that includes a *grin*. That's just as bad as if he'd done a ROTFLMGDAO. I was somewhat interested in it until I hit that part, then I just stopped reading. I couldn't take the poster seriously anymore.
Do you think that 911 will work when your lovely POTS goes down and you can't dial out? Believe it or not, my POTS was out of service more often than my internet service has gone down. I've had approximately 1 hour of internet downtime in the past year. When I had a POTS, every month it was out for about half an hour.
IF you're at home, and your VOIP is properly configured with your address, then VOIP 911 is just as good as the POTS. If you're plugged in somewhere else - say, in another state - then it's most likely a temporary arrangement, and there will either be a standard phone to use, or there wasn't a phone there anyway. Why should VOIP be expected to give proper 911 service EVERYWHERE even places where you don't have a phone?
Well, there's editing the registry, or installing something like TweakUI. Those are really the only ways to disable autorun. You CAN disable autoplay in the CDROM properties dialog, but that's not the same thing. In order to disable autorun, "editing of the windows registry is necessary."
While i'm not entirely sure what exactly the Sony CD's do, I'm fairly certain that a Windows PC doesn't treat it as an audio CD. When you put it in, it autoruns an EXE, so merely disabling automatic audio CD playing won't stop this from occuring.
I'm surprised no one (that i've seen) has posted this so far on this story: Popups died because they're DAMN ANNOYING! It's not because of the pop up blockers, they're only a symptom of the problem. If popups weren't so annoying, there would be no need for the blockers. In my opinion, the biggest reason for the decline of popups is how popular (with advertisers) they became. Most people see a popup and immediately close it without even looking at what it is. It's a reflex. Text ads just aren't so annoying, so not as many people feel the need to block them. But still, it's not one stamping out the other, it's one thriving and one dying, natural selection on the web.
Copyright law already includes Fair Use provisions. When I buy a painting and display it on the wall, I don't need any sort of EULA. When I buy a program and run it, I don't need an EULA either. Copyright law works fine in both cases. In fact, there is no law anywhere that says I have to agree to the EULA in order to use the software. I bought it, I don't agree with the EULA, therefore the EULA is not binding. The purchase is then covered under basic copyright law, which means I bought it, I can use it how I want. The difference between EULAs and the GPL (or other Open Source licenses) is that EULAs restrict rights you already have, and OSS licenses grant rights you don't already have. Get rid of either the EULA or the OSS license and you fall back on standard copyright law. In the case of the EULA, that means if I don't agree, I have MORE rights than if I did agree. With OSS, I have LESS rights than if I agreed.
Yeah, the format is locked to a vendor or kind of equipment, but there are ways of transferring it if you really want to. (Yes, there are. Stop complaining.)
Why the fuck do I go to the polls as part of the only blue city n a red state, I might as well not vote at all.
Because if you never bother, then it will never change. There might be more blues than you think, just all of them are too jaded to vote, so it comes out overwhelmingly red every time. And if the blues get more and more jaded, then the margin becomes wider, although in reality the margin could be becoming smaller if only you just spoke up.

"America" isn't a country, so why does everyone say if you're from the US you're an "American"?
Why does activation have to include a click? Why not just make the activation be a mouseover event?

Call of Duty 2 for the PC has been out since October.
TV is so 20th century. Get with the times.
Do you work for the RIAA?

I completely agree.
FEMA was slower when an idiot was in charge, so we should be glad it's slightly less inept now that a bumbling moron is in charge!

You obviously haven't read the book.

Hmm... Smacking a T-Rex on the snout...
Sounds like a terrific idea to me.
Perhaps by finding fossilized half digested human remains in the belly of a dinosaur fossil?
I don't ANAL.

Yes, there are... BUT THEY'RE ILLEGAL!

And yet the current US administration would have you believe that if you don't trust the government, you're unpatriotic and you hate America.
would result in the ISP/Telco blocking legitimate users as well
Are you suggesting that VOIP isn't legitimate?
This isn't how people would react in the real life
GASP! I don't know about you, but if I caught a plague in real life, my first instinct would be to teleport back to my home town.
Unfortunately, an article with posts that all have perfect grammar has yet to occur.
(BTW: "it's" = "it is")
