    Most Compaq stuff, excluding Proliant servers, has a combination head, a Torx T15, with a slot directly through it. If you don't have a Torx driver, any largish flat blade driver will do.

    What's the point of using a mouse? I've seen Barcode scanners for around AUD$15, where as the cheapest optical mouse i've seen is AUD$35 or so. Seems to be easier and cheaper the buy the wand and get the driver, rather than buy a mouse and kludge it together. It's like using a hairdryer to dry dishes, it might work but a hairdryer costs more than a tea towel!

    Does the page concertina at all? If so its probably the registration.. either way if its under warranty you can call up and HP will send someone out to fix it..

    The HP 8550 doesn't have quality like the HP 4500 series. They print a lot faster, but every one that i have seen prints a lot worse quality than their younger brother.

    And usually I was fixing something simple like a worn pickup roller, or a blown fuser.

    That is usually what goes wrong with most laser printers of any brand. Pickup rollers and fusers wear out. They make up 90% of the calls.

    Too bad the new HP laser printers absolutely suck (when they jam badly you'll need to dissassemble much of the printer. BLECH! Not to mention the new abundance of plastic were plastic doesn't belong)
    Uh. On what model do you have to "dissassemble much of the printer" to remove a paper jam?

    I know of at least 4 major banks that have cheap and shitty inkjet printers for their workers (they also have larger laser printers, but not for use by people with local inkjets.)

    Does it convert to HPGL2 Lite? That is what the base model plotters use. You need to buy a decent version to get full HPGL2.

    If you need to print from a system which only outputs in PS, buy the version which supports it. It's also no good buying a low end plotter, and converting to HPGL2 and plotting, as the low end plotters usually only support GL/2 Lite. It is well worth spending the extra cash to get the PS option.

    - medical care. Australia's socialized medical system is efficient and user-friendly; and my wife is an asthmatic. We'll either have to get medical insurance here, or be prepared to drive to Canada whenever she needs more medications

    Why is that? I am Australian and I couldn't get any sort of cheap/discount/free medication in Canada when I lived there. Has something changed?

    Correct, they are provided by a third party. Ask the dell rep to have Getronics service your system, I know they are good.

    This is the number one reason my office does not use Dell/IBM/Gateway machines. I don't have to ship them to who knows where for service.
    Dell provides onsite service for all their machines.
