Yes thats right. The plan is that you can't use the sony thingie for distribution. It's a SDMI sortha solution(hey you can sing this! mmmm... free music).
Sony music is deeply involved in RIAA(aren't they?). Guess we all know the true purpose of the RIO-lawsuit then: Get a competing product off the market.
512bit keys can be broken easy(been done). 768 no way in hell(now). 1024 no way in hell(for a long time). >=2048 bit keys no way in hell(ever!). This is for RSA, DH seems to even safer, elliptic-curve isn't analysed enough yet(anyone?). You should really be more worried about the RNG used to create the key, having a good passphrase, making sure nobody sees you type your _, making sure not to type on a monitored terminal etc. Me? oh i use a 4096bit DH-key(the world can always be invaded by aliens that have a ray-gun that can turn entire galaxies into large computron axelerators that connect in near infinite number of dimensions |) ).
Let's say that a 200k$ machine brakes DES on a 3.5 day average(has been done!). So 20k$ brakes it on 35 day avarage. And 2k$ brakes it on 1year average! So security depends on the expiration time for the data: 1 year -> 50% chance of success, 6month -> 25% etc. Key change rate is also important. Already with 1% chance of BIG payoff such a machine is mighty tempting.

O.K. I get the "Beta Corel distro" i redistrubute it to others in my "Development group" under my very own third licence. Now i havent distributed the beta since i only gave it to people in the same development group AND lets say that my licence says _GPL'd_! Then immidietly _all_ corels work becomes GPL'd software. Now who broke the law? Not me I just used the same licence as always when i distribute software _internally_ in my group, and they didin't brake the licence they got. Right?

Second the disks arent safe for data storage, they get alot of read errors(the "ARTAC" is a bit more fault tolerant that mp3). Third theres alway the Castlewood(tm) Orb(tm) 2gig disks for ~40$. It's an ATAPI so you just plug it into your favorite Linux box and start playing around. But if you like you can always plug your modem to your MD player and go 74 mins at 56kb/s |)(Disclamer: ARTAC may garble your data) LINUX stands for: Linux Inux Nux Ux X
It is possible to break a key (or any data) so that if there was n pieces one could choose that it requires at least n-x pieces to reconstruct the key. So having 10 pieces around the world and having a system that requires 8 of them to recontruct the key whould solve the both problems of loosing it to natural dissaster and compromising of key security. So either microsoft are wery stupid or it really is a NSA-key.
No I belive that that was an erlier law. This thing makes you tell your ISP that you'r using somekind of censorware. Giving false testymony about this is probably illegal somehow in Ozzyland.
