The entire point of the embargo is to raise prices and make products less accessible. It is simply folly to assume, as you do, that the purpose of the embargo is to block 100% of products, and that the policy is expected to work 100% of the time. Smuggling raises prices, as you say. So instead of a shipment of 300 computers for nuclear simulation and research, they only get 100, which lengthens the time before they can detonate a nuclear weapon. And the decrease in the price of oil is hitting the Iranian government hard. There is a large segment of the Iranian population that is essentially being bribed into compliance. Revolutions happen when enough people get pissed off enough...but I suppose that it's OK that Islamic Republic of Iran is ruled by an openly anti-semitic religious dictatorship.
For that matter, what sort of God-given right does anyone have to expect American goods? They have the entire rest of the world to trade with, why do they want to buy Made In USA?
You might try asking the legions of nerds who cheat at counterstrike, or who play locally at 0 ping against modem players. I had a coworker who would sit and play Quake for hours, racking up 50 kills while second place player would get maybe 6-7 kills, and the other 10 players even less. He never got tired of it.
Hey, I see a future 5-10 years off when instead of just losing a man, the system will require you to do a pushup before you get another life. Die again, and do two pushups, and so on. Or you have to pedal a bicycle for 10 turns of the pedals, and next time 20 turns, etc. The system would keep track of what you've done so as not to tire one muscle group out too much. Or get an electric shock, the kind that those guys in Mexican border towns run around bars with windup generators trying to get drunk gringos to show off in front of their friends with (at least back when you could go to a border town without getting shot). Tell the system that you need to study Roman history, and it asks you questions about your homework when you die, and you have to get 3 right before you get another man. Just think how much useless knowledge is stored in gamers' minds about which pearl is on which level, and how to get the upgrade for it...replace that with a game where you have to gather the 92 elements instead, and bam, you've got a gamer who just memorized the periodic table.
The emphasis needs to change from an out-and-out penalty to a constructive disruption in gameplay. Just wait, it'll happen, and some jerkwad will get the freaking Nobel prize for it. It's rather amazing to me that it hasn't happened yet, it's barely started with the Wii. Imagine, being able to tell the video gamers by how buff they are (instead of seeing a muscular right forearm connected to a undernourished or obese body).
You don't master a game just because you passed a level. You think people doing speed runs just did the level once? What you're talking about is removing any penalty for failure. Heck, if you want that, then perhaps something like Animal Crossing is more your style. You're also talking about reducing the total number of hours spent on a game. Let's face it, people buy a game based on hours of gameplay - why else would it be splashed across the box? If games are trying your patience, then you've probably outgrown them, and need to move on to more mature pursuits. It happens to everyone sooner or later. Playing games is about playing the games...not getting frustrated because the game you're playing requires you to play the game.
No, being the son of God is what gets you resurrected. Being crucified is just a method of execution, the ancients filled graveyards like this. Sorry about your confusionn between causation and correlation, though...sadly all too common these days.
It will never work. Game designers don't like to do a remake, it doesn't give them any opportunity to showcase their creativity. That's why there are always "improvements" that screw up the game...just so some shallow jerk can put it on his resume. I've seen it a million times...
That's my point, man - you're not playing the game, you're sitting around criticizing it and trying to get inside the head of whoever made it. If you sit around bitching about design, then you're probably burned out and would benefit from a change of hobbies.
If you don't repeat the game's content, then how are you supposed to get good at the game? You get killed, you try again, and you get better. If you're not enjoying the challenges that the game is giving, and you spend all of your time composing poorly-thought-out diatribes against the game, then the technical term for your state is "burned out", and you're better off moving to different activities in life other than video games. Trust me, you'll be happier when you're not clicking on a Skinner box.
That wasn't a remake of MULE, it was MULE II, an entirely different piece of software. And even that was still in the 8-bit era, hardly anything that would run on modern hardware.
The internet MULE is here and there is also a DOS program called Subtrade that changes the rules a bit, makes it less predictable with much better computer players than the rather stupid ones in MULE.
Are you sure it really happened that way, or is this just remembering things like you wanted them to happen? I seem to remember shareware houses doing quite well, and commercial apps were far far superior to any free alternative.
I work with dozens of Chinese factories on a daily basis, and yes, they have AV software installed. Otherwise, the warning dialog in XP pops up, and they call the IT guy to fix it. But please feel free to continue your racist diatribes modded +5.
How did I know that environmentalists already had an objection? It's like I didn't even have to read the response, it would automatically appear of its own accord. The usual thing to do in these circumstances is pump water uphill, but I'm sure there's an immediate objection to that, too.
A buddy of mine used to run this matching website for teachers & students. Free for teachers, and the students had to pay a nominal amount to get the teachers' contact info, and after that, it was up to them to arrange for lessons. The site was popular, and he made decent money at it. I bugged him and bugged him to organize parties, and eventually he came around to my way of thinking (he wanted to make some money without his parasite partner getting it). He used the list of emails from his website to send party invitations for a monthly get-together. He made more money from the parties than he did from the website.
"rightfully tried to get rid of"? This is the first time that I've heard persecution on basis of religion so blithely justified and accepted in a single phrase. Let me guess, you rooted for the Afrikaaners against Nelson Mandela, too, right?
Video games are hardly in line to replace golf as the recreation of the ruling class. Half the point of the golf course and country club is that they are expensive, difficult for the proles to get into, and only admit the right kind of people. It is also a physical location...try getting a massage after your round of CS.
Please quit quoting the discredited studies on IQ as a bell curve - it gets used by the wrong kind of people to promote the worst kind of racism. There was a widely distributed book (unfortunately) that advanced this theory, and it served no purpose other than to justify the comfort of people in power. In a just society, this book would have been suppressed (by legal means, i.e. no publisher would have taken it) but in the USA, it's business as usual, anything that bashes brown people is instantly popular everywhere.

What, so you should have a ton of money in the bank sitting around doing nothing? I live in China, and everyone here does exactly that...it keeps a lot of otherwise useful money locked away where it can not influence anyone, nor make more money. Leveraging isn't what's wrong with capitalism, the current crisis was caused by breaking the law (mortgage fraud) on a massive scale.
An interest rate of 0% means that your money will be worth the same tomorrow as it is today. What other financial instrument today offers this sort of certainty?
Cash in the bank is money sitting idle. You want your money out there, earning for you. If you choose an overly conservative strategy where you don't borrow money, then your business isn't running efficiently. I assume you're an owner...in a corporation, you would be subject to lawsuits and removal if you are not getting the shareholders the maximum benefits available. Remember, a CEO's goal (lawful duty, actually) isn't to make a profit, it's to maximize profit.

Ha, that was parmaster, I think. He owned a printer that sat on a Saudi or Dubai network, and collected every CC and balance that got printed...

I thought the whole point was hilariously negative reviews. Didn't you get the memo?

Aaah! It was only a couple of flipper babies!
Had they tried to do real journalism, they would have slanted the story to fit their political viewpoints. ;)
