  1. Bill gets it wrong again: on Microsoft's Athens PC · · Score: 0, Flamebait

    1) Who wants a computer system where MS can dial in and pull up all your info? Is the world not calling for security and privacy?

    2) Why HP? I want an AMD64 based system.

    3) This sounds like MS is going to give HP a sort of OS that will only run on certain hardware. No longer will the consumer decide what hardware is the best. And what if I want a Dell ? Do I have to pay more for the hardware just to run MS?

    Nobody asked for this.

    HEY BILL
How about giving the customer what it is asking for:
    Secure and reliable software.
    Privacy.
A 64bit OS that runs on a low cost solution like AMD so I can play more powerful games.

Who the hell asked for a proprietary hardware software computer ?
If I want that I will get a MAC.

Oh well at least Linux64 runs on the new AMD 64, perhaps this is when MS will lose most of its market, while it is busy working on crap no body even wants.

This article is the very reason why I argue against using spanning tree. I have seen many similar outages. It does not help when the very thing that is there to help prevent the system form going down can cause it to go down.

I always opt to have an identical switch that I can fail key systems over to manually.

Spanning tree caused them to be down for days.
Why not build a switched network with no loops then if a switch fails it only affects the systems on that switch. And if you have the budget there will be a second exact switch powered up right under it in the rack. You unplug all the patches and plug them into the other switch. Down time = way less then days. The network becomes far simpler ergo much simpler to maintain and fix.

    Just my 2 Cents.

Because it is not open source...

It will be a really long time before we really know if it really works or if it is just a bunch of bull kaka marketing to sell more Microsoft.

Microsoft always makes the same mistakes:

1)Market a new idea that sounds great but is actually nothing but a marketing gimmick.

2)Sell it to everyone with a smile on their face thinking no one will be smart enough to know it is just snake oil.

3)Deny it is snake oil even after thousands of people are hurt by it.

4)Fail to see how hurting their own customers hurts Microsoft.

If Microsoft wants my trust back it needs to do full discloser. Full discloser is best practice, it is like labels on food. If you know what's in it and you still get hurt then it is your own fault. But Microsoft says you do not need to know what's in it, just trust us, buy this it will never hurt you.

I would not touch any security based system that is not fully disclosed, how could I suggest to my superiors that they should use this new technology, it would imply to them that I felt certain it would protect their data when in fact I would not know. And I am certain the end user Licence prevents any liability on the part of Microsoft and its partners.

So if you missed it I sum this new thing up like this:

If it's not open source it's snake oil marketing.
Why hide it if it works ?

DC is full of decision makers who are not computer experts and are counting on getting good truthful information in order to make the best decisions on how to defeat terrorism, so if Bill is using his money to feed lies to them then he is helping the bad guys, he is a bad guy.

Bill does not care about what is best for the people but what is best for his pocket book. How does he sleep at night? How much money is enough?

Either the people who put this report together for MS (DC) are completely stupid and should not be allowed to speak about such things or are completely aware of the lie they are trying to spread in which case they are evil and or cowards.

The big last step the Nazis took in early days once they first gained office (they still had to contend with the communist party that still had allot of seats in the house) was to burn down parliament and blame the communists, thus instilling a law banning all communists from parliament.

If the parallel fits then soon MS will higher hackers to bring down the big Linux system in Germany once it is built and then say: See Linux is evil we must ban it from all government systems at once.

P.S. Ever notice that when MS was everyone's friend and BG was a hero he was always dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt. It seems MS started down hill exactly at the same time Bill started wearing suits and ties. It's the tailor made $5000 dollar suits that make people turn into Nazis. It is bad enough that MS uses its monopoly to destroy choice, it is even wors when people think that the whole world needs to bow to them and use their software because all the other stuff is to hard and that's not what " I use at Home." So lets get the schools to use MS (Which they of course have to pay for) than of course everyone who has children in school will have to buy MS software in order to comply with what the government school system has chosen, Much to the delight of the guy who is scared that they might have chosen something scary and different that he may not understand regardless of the cost. If all the libraries and schools use free software than that is the standard that will need to be adopted in the home. Not vice versa. And it will be ok because everyone can afford free software at home.

So when they hit the real world and the boss asked, " What Word Processor should we use. " everyone said Word Perfect, because that's the one I know I learned it in high school and used it in college. Now MS is not giving away its software to the education system. But Linux is free and was built for the purpose of educating students in the Unix OS. It is criminal for a school system to purchase MS products when Linux is out there and available for nothing. Red Hat or another Linux provider should step up to the plate and lobby the government, promise help in migrating the schools to Linux.
