Well, other than 'classified' stuff, isn't it usually released into the Public Domain?

And about the Army game, they don't really own the code to that. The engine is licenced from Epic Games, so it's not really theirs to distribute.

This idea of a ReplyTV intrigues me. Would it allow me to let those moronic sitcom writers know how I feel about that horrible cliche they just used? Or perhaps I could bitchslap that vapid anchorman the next time he screws up a technology story?

Heck, an invention like this might get me watching TV again!

I wholeheartedly agree. Unfortunantly, the "general concensus" does not agree with you, as they've never played the game. (Despite it being released several times.)

Heck, even paid game reviewers who are big Star Wars fans haven't played it. I don't even think the famous Gabe has played it, nevermind all the other "kiddies" out there. Alas, even in it's newest re-release, it still doesn't have enough eye candy to draw in the younger generation. They'll just go on with their lives thinking Rogue Leader is the penultimate in Star Wars sims. Bleech.

I like Lucasarts (though I used to like it more), but you've got to realize that this issue with ScummVM probably won't make it past their lawyer department, who probably have all the technical aptitude of a pack of (three-headed) monkeys.

And the ball is the only thing needed to play a game of basketball? No hoop, no net, no court? And even if you have these things, they need maintenance. The gymnasium floor at my high school was all warped to hell. Football and baseball need fields too, not to mention various equipment like bats, gloves, padding, helmets, etc.

    These things do add up.

    > some people enjoy sports. It's not as much a feeling of accomplishment as it is fun and exercise at the same time.

Right, and DDR is fun and exercise at the same time also. It appeals to a wider audience, too.

Granted, there is one area it falls short in, which nobody has particularly mentioned: Teamwork. You can pair up with someone in DDR and play co-op, but coordinating with an entire team of other people to achieve a common goal is quite a different thing.

Anyway, they should realize that if they don't want people to access their content, they shouldn't be putting it on the fscking World Wide Web.

Why? Maybe they should scrap all the weightlifting and sports equipment and just get DDR machines. I don't see how one is intrinsically better than another. All these "exercises" that people do are pointless, you know. They're just excuses to get you to move your body around.

Sheesh, people act like they've accomplished something worthwhile when they put a ball in a goal or through a hoop. Unless you're a paid professional, the only thing you're getting out of it is a workout. And if DDR gets more kids exercising, then more power to it.

Anyway, your comments are short-sighted. I don't see this video game being any more idiotic than chasing some ball around a court, or hitting a ball with a stick and running around a diamond. The only difference is that it's easier for "non-jocks" to get into, more immediately gratifying, and teaches you rhythm.

It's amazing how many people aren't willing to try a new thing. I mean, isn't innovation what made [insert your country of origin] great?

One idea that's been floating around in my head for years is that someone should get a supercomputer (or a big Beowulf cluster) and try to run their own sim-universe.

Of course, it'd have to have simplified rules (we don't yet know all the rules to out own universe), and it'd probably have to be with a smaller number of bits (quarks?). But I wonder what kind of results we could get. It'd probably take a bit of tweaking to get the physical laws set up right so that stars form and function, or maybe even planets form (at least gas giants).

Is this project too big to even think about right now?
