    They got the things to use as weapons from a passing trucker who stopped, it's likely no one had anything with them on the bus.

    Anyway, I don't know if they knew it at the time, but it's not likely confronting him right away would have changed anything. It doesn't take too many stabs to the chest with a hunting knife to kill someone.

    No, but researching new technologies has a chance of providing a long term solution. Drilling on the other hand has no chance of solving our energy problems.

    The point is that more drilling isn't a fix. More drilling in the US will provide a relatively small amount of oil which will delay our energy problems for months, maybe a few years at best.

    The Republicans are putting on a show today because it looks good to the unwashed masses, but getting their drilling won't solve our energy problems.

    At least in that example, the problem is that it isn't the product that is harmful, the act of hopping on one foot in the shower is. If that original email were real it would probably have been a joke about how safe the product is, and not an admission of a dangerous design flaw.

    That trick doesn't work in IE. I assume this is because the experts-exchange guys are huge OSS fans and this is their way of rewarding users of non-proprietary browsers :)

    It's also entirely plausible that nothing can be inferred from looking at the development of life on one planet.

    All life on our planet is closely related, especially the higher forms of life. It may just be a happy accident that mammals have 4 limbs and two eyes.

    I don't know about that. What qualifications does he have? Downloading a mass-mailer program and feeding it a list of emails you bought isn't exactly a skill that's in short supply.

    Actually about a quarter of the federal jail population is in only for drug possession. Not a "real crime" by any reasonable definition (where outlawing of harmless plants is not considered reasonable).

    I can't say for sure. I've never seen it happen. The app gives you a warning when trying to leave a page if there is a network operation in progress.

    No, if it's decently made then it will open in the my browser window, or a new tab if I chose. Gmail and google maps are both decently made I think and they don't refuse to open in the current tab. They don't disable my back button either.

    Well I don't plan on calling you so I won't have that problem. I don't know anyone who doesn't check their voicemail. I don't always do it right away, but I always get around to it sooner or later. How on earth do you know if you missed an important call if you don't check the message?

    I'm not expert, but I know that the cost of desalination is prohibitive. That's why places like Southern California have water shortages despite easy access to the ocean. I believe that purification of fresh water is less costly, but fresh water isn't always in abundance.

    There is talk here in San Diego of recycling our waste water but the major problem with that seems to be political. Some people have a somewhat irrational opposition to the idea.

    But the point is that if you don't have a water shortage then their is no real need to conserve. It's not like if you use less water in Canada then us in California will have more available to use.
