I think you are missing the fact that the objections in the US have nothing to do with luggage screening. It's the hand searching and scanning of people that is objectionable.
Wait, isn't typing rm -rf also just a PEBKAC? The severity of PEBKACs varies greatly depending on what the keyboard is plugged into and who's sitting in the chair.
Actually that's not funny if you read the post. He is contrasting the WHO flu warnings which actually work to the public alert systems like the DHS color alerts which don't. That the avian flu warning has gone down since his post while the DHS alert is still at orange (for flights) backs up his point exactly.
Also, there has to be some way that people who might not like the way the government is doing things (but doesn't intend on killing a plane-full of innocents) can do the same.
These people aren't terrorists, why would they be hassled over "thought crimes".
McCain probably wouldn't have done anything particularly good, but I can't imagine him systematically dismantling civil liberties and the economy.
I find it hard to believe you would say that if you were paying attention to McCain during his campaign. There was no sign of the "maverick" McCain of old who said sane things in opposition to his party.
No, it's not. There are two parties that happen to be more effective than anybody else at getting votes but there is nothing in the US Constitution or Federal/State laws that define this country as a two-party state.
No laws explicitly make us a two-party nation, but the laws that define our plurality voting system almost guarantee it.
Actually my microwave uses an Inverter(tm) to reduce the strength of the microwaves instead of cycling at low power for more even cooking, or so they claim. The microwave is about 2 years old, I'm not sure how long this has been an option.
Maybe those alternatives are viable for you, but unfortunately I don't have unlimited time and money to spend on transit. Flying is literally the only option for me and I would guess most people.
I'm not sure what you want to agree to disagree about. It's a fact that life in prison is cheaper then the death penalty, I didn't express any opinions in my previous comment.
I said viable alternatives. Trains, cars, boats, and staying home are not viable alternatives to flying when you want to visit family on the opposite coast.
Oh please, as if there are viable alternatives to flying. You've got a screwed up definition of empowerment if you think being bullied into not traveling by the TSA doesn't make you powerless.
It is well known that, due to the extensive appeals process, the cost of carrying out a death penalty is far more expensive then the cost of holding someone in prison for life. So there you have it. But you're right, even if it was cheaper to execute people it would still be morally unjustifiable.
Glad to know it's not only my cat who does that. It took her about half a dozen shattered glasses before she had me properly trained never to leave a glass on the kitchen counter.
I have. In fact I can only think of one time when my cell phone didn't work when I tried to use it. That makes the odds pretty good that if I'm in another emergency the phone will work then too.
I really don't think 9/11 type attacks are a threat anymore as no one will sit back and listen to the hijacker's demands, and guns on board do nothing to stop someone from blowing up an aircraft.

You mean a system that makes it obvious what a pitifully small risk terrorism actually is in this country? Obviously that idea is a nonstarter.
...at the time the tests were last normalized. If American's are getting dumber at a fast enough rate his numbers could very well be correct.

What McCain has done in Congress since his campaign is pretty much exactly in line with what he was saying.
These people aren't terrorists, why would they be hassled over "thought crimes".

Yeah, I was only half joking. It does really fit them well.
Wrong. They care about doing what they think is good. What they don't care about is if you agree with what they think is good.
I believe Wikileaks fits the chaotic-good alignment.
Fifty feet of bent tracks do not qualify as wholesale destruction. The article even says the rails were expected to be fixed within a week.
No, I don't want to fly somewhere. I want to be somewhere, and the only way to make that happen is by flying.
Maybe those alternatives are viable for you, but unfortunately I don't have unlimited time and money to spend on transit. Flying is literally the only option for me and I would guess most people.

No, that is not the same reasoning at all. You seriously don't see the difference between a wrongful imprisonment and a wrongful execution?
It is well known that, due to the extensive appeals process, the cost of carrying out a death penalty is far more expensive then the cost of holding someone in prison for life. So there you have it. But you're right, even if it was cheaper to execute people it would still be morally unjustifiable.
If the point of the death penalty was only to prevent recidivism then we wouldn't use it. Life in prison is just as effective and much cheaper.
