MiniDisc's are better than CD's and DVD's in my mind because they are in protective cases all the time. After the removeable media is removed it can be transported and stored in semi harsh environments with relative safty. I and many others are constantly scratching CD's to the point of they can't be used in record time.
How many articals of clothing do you have with a pocket large enough to put a CD or DVD into? I don't have any. A minidisc actually fits in my pocket. I don't want to carry around everything in my hands. I like to use my hands for things like opening doors. It would be a shame to drop that ~$400 HDD player and break it while opening the door at work or the coffee shop. (I realize that the IPOD can take a few drops, but i don't want to find out how many or how big)
The only things that disapointed me was media capacity and the crappy OpenMG software that Sony made you use. The capacity has now been revamped. Lets hope they revamp the software.
Could one assume that Xvid benchmarks would scale along aside the DivX benchmarks that are included with the artical? I know its not the same but it would be a good place to start.
If the consumer is paying the artist via this levy, does that mean sharing music via a P2P network is now legal for Canadians, so long as they intend to transfer that music to either an MP3 player or some form of media on which the levy has been applied?
No, not at all. Sharing music via P2P is still bad and always will be bad. But if you borrow my "original" CD of some copyrighted music you may make a personal copy for youself. And when the Levy is attached to Hard drives in MP3 players you will be able to make that personal copy to that hard drive instead of CD's which currently is the correct way to do it now.
These Levy's are to allow a personal copy of an original not a copy of a copy.
Well, i guess that will depends if your ISP even still exists. Do you see what SOCAN is asking. 25 cents a head, plus 10% of advertising revenues. This has a possibility to be alot of money for an ISP to fork out. It could potentially put a few of the smaller shops out of business.
No, you should not receive a "payment" for "potential" software piracy. But you should join or create an organization for software developers and just like SOCAN get your own levy against CD-R's for personal copies. Then wait a few days and then go after ISP's for another levy.
As a Canadian, I already pay a copyright levy on cdrs, am I supposed to pay more to my isp now? Judging by the line above..I'd have to say it isnt completely out of the question.
K, I don't have a problem with a Levy asigned to each internet use accross Canada. If i recall correctly they were only asking for 25cent a head per year. Is what bothers me is the 10% of advertising revenues they were also asking for. what the hell does advertising space have to do with music?
They have one thats already put together for you at (21600w x 10800h), 177.72 MB (233,280,000 pixels)
If that is not enough detail for ya, then take the Western and Eastern and stitch them yourself.

...from navigation systems to music players to information devices... Personally, I think it's no big deal. Just remember these are all non-critical components.
I can just see someone driving down the road and their Indash navigation system locks up. And as they are fumbling with buttons to reboot/reset the damn thing they crash into a telephone pole and take down the DSL connections in that neighboorhood. All because they took their EYES off the road for a few seconds.
And right after they get their ISP tax, they will go after Wireless network cards and base stations. Then network cable producers. Christ, why don't they get their own music duty on all imported computer hardware and be done with it.
No, ATM's are not on the 'Internet' as you would like to think. But it is quite possible that they are on their own private network, and then some infected machine was then connected to that private network.
yeah, take your eyes off the road for even a second, and your either in a pothole that some people could mistake for a crater or you up the ass end of some tractor pulling something way too large to even fit on the road.
So, you can graft together a fruit and tobacco, and get a fruit with nicotine. Could you graft a fruit and, oh, I don't know...say...a cannabis plant, and produce a fruit with THC? Would that be illegal? I mean, marijuana is illegal...but is a tomaijuana? (that would be a tomato with THC in it).
Purely theoretical, of course....just wondering and all;)
42 homes were broken into over the course of the evening.
I'm sure theives would love to know the address's of all the partons of the bar that friday night. Takeing special attention to all people more than 1/2 hour away.
Implementing it in the DNS isn't "bonkers". Implementing in the _root_ DNS servers, with no warning, no RFC, no discussion, and no debate is bonkers.
Nail, head, hammer... I agree with you 100% What on earth were they thinking. Must have been looking to make a quick buck somehow. Maybe re-direct all unregistered domains to "ONE" registrar for a cut of the pie.

Outlook Express already does this.

If ya turn them inside out and then flip them front to back you can stretch the dreaded laundry day even further.

What about Henery Rollins? He has to be in there somewhere.

What if Jack is bigger than you?
Spammers will just put digital signatures on their spam. I imagine a black market for valid digital signatures too.

9 megabytes per second is not good enough for you?
Oh my, did you ever hit the nail with a hammer with this comment.
