    No database can guarantee data integrity in the case of a power failure. What they should have been using is a UPS.

    In a lot of web board software, for instance EZBoard, the author is too lazy to do proper HTML verification, so they just strip out all < > and then convert the allowed tags with [brackets] into the same tag with <angles>.

    Windows doesn't have any more "cruft" than the average Linux distribution. Would you rather have just a kernel, a shell, and coreutils; or would you want a system where things can be done out of the box without the hassle of installing it all?

    You just have to own the original boardset, and it doesn't have to work, either. You can get a busted Asteroids board on ebay for $10, and a broken Street Fighter will run you $5.

    Actually, making "backups" like that is only legal if you copy them yourself.

    In Version 5 UNIX, when you tried to "mv" a directory with a name ending with a . it would give the message "values of will give rise to dom!". This was taken out in Version 7.

    Actually, there are 31556926.08 seconds in a year. (60 * 60 * 24 * 365.2422 = 31556926.08)

    The BIOS is in memory addresses 0xF0000-0xFFFFF, which is only 64k. The Linux kernel is way bigger than that. How can you fit it in?

    99.999% uptime = 5 minutes downtime per year
