  1. Best solution I've seen on Feds to Recommend Paper Trail for Electronic Votes · · Score: 5, Informative

    http://www.forbes.com/opinions/2006/11/10/voting-f raud-security-tech-security-cz_bs_1113security.htm l

This article came out in forbes a while back and the author has the best solution I've seen for verifying votes on electronic voting machines. He proposes having a touchscreen computer to make all of your ballot selections and when you are done and hit vote it prints out a piece of paper with your sslections. You then can verify your votes were recorded correctly before putting your ballot in a box so that it can be run through an optical scanner at the end of the day to count the votes.

  2. release date on It's Official -- Star Wars on DVD · · Score: 1

Of course George Lucas is going to release this set before he finishes episode three. That way he can get all of the fans to buy this set and the in another two or three years get them to buy the six movie set. If he waited another year to release it , a lot of people would wait to buy, but by doing it now he can make more money. It's the same tactic many companies follow releasing the basic movie first, then the "gold edition" in wide screen, then the extra special "platinum edition" with bonus footage. That way they sell three copies to the same person. I will wait until they have all six in a set before I buy it.

  3. Re:I want just a phone on Nokia 7600 All-in-One Phone · · Score: 1

I do want the cool toys and have my share of them - it's just that when you combine products like this and try and make it small you end up with a crappy mp3 player, a crappy camera, and a crappy phone. I would rather have a small long lasting phone, an Ipod and a canon camera. three worthwhile products instead of one worthless one.

  4. I want just a phone on Nokia 7600 All-in-One Phone · · Score: 3, Insightful

My dream phone is small, lightweight, and has a long battery life. Combining multiple features tkaes away from all three of these characteristics. Am I weird for wanting a phone that is just a phone?

  5. wall street journal article on Electronics & Planes Don't Mix? · · Score: 1

The wall street journal did an interesting article on this a few years ago. here is a link to a copy of it - http://www.panix.com/~dictum/news/telecom/Cell_pho nes_on_planes.html

The end result was that while there have been a number of cases where electronic devices were blamed - none of them have ever been proven. the best story was when a laptop was blamed so boeing bought the laptop from the passeneger and then flew the plane with the laptop on and could not find any problems

  6. the next generation of file sharing on Music Industry Compared to Movie Industry · · Score: 1

with the advent of 40 gig hardrive mp3 players and laptops it is easy to share files without using the internet. I usually have my laptop with me when I go to friends houses and anytime I see a cd i want I just load it in. The flip side of this is that I always have 40 gigs of music that I can dump into their computers or players. Who needs Kazaa?

  8. price of CD's on RIAA Now Targeting Retailers · · Score: 2, Interesting

I like how riaa links the drop in sales to pirating , but they never bring up the fact that the price of new CD's is now closing in on $20. Economics 101 says that when the price increases sales should fall. Could this be the real reason for the drop ion sales?
