what's the point in adding them to the list if there is no benchmark of them? Hilarious that they want to install winxp on them.. 'course it doesnt work, DUH! i would love to see a win98-winxp comparison on a P100.. Anyway I am in constant search of these lower speed processors 'cause they are perfect for mp3-players and control jobs! in combination with win98lite it's perfect!
I am reading this book (or well... listening to the audiobook version) right now.. combined with these slasdot news it is alarming! do we really have ANY possibility to escape extinction if we get it??
I just proofread 2 pages of some greek philosophy book. the system works really nice! quick database, not too large pages to read. except i would like to have source and text next to each other, and not above each other.
i spend practically 7hr a day behing this little lovely pc, doing image analysis and writing. now it is true that i have considerable problems in going to work, but on the other hand the fact that i can read/. every half hour makes me more comfortable with my lot. as for shoulders and neck and wrists, you just have to be careful w/ your working position and stand up every half hour or so and walk/photocopy a little.. as for the eyes.. they told me too much coffee seemed to influence sight/light problems. now i have QUIT drinking coffee for a month but my eyes are still sore. maybe when i get home i should not glue myself to my home boxen.. hmm. well. just wanted to say that i think that screen work is not necessarily evil if you can relax now and then and make it interesting. (thus mod +1 interesting) my 2 eurocents
did you read that? TRANSATLANTIC CONSISTENCY -of laws, of course... oh my dear! yes of COURSE europe should understand that when something goes wrong in the US, it should also go that way in europe.. man! i can't believe it. now, if europe decides MS is wrong, should then the US reconsider their judgements because of transatlantic consistency?????
couldn't anyone of the first visitors to the new stories' sites make a mirror? isn't it possible to make a temp mirror on slashdot servers, let's say for an hour or two?? many interesting sites are just poorly hosted and won't withstand/.-ing..
duh, many streaming audio sources on internet use this format. and you wanna be able to access al information, don't you? plus, many windoze media player users, might they come to cd-ripping^H^H^H^H^H^H saving music to their HD, use the default low-quality wma format..
so far, so good. but.. what is its use when there is no search engine? or did I overlook something? it is really necessary to be an "alternative" for me!
wait until the mice (actually hyperintelligent pan-dimensional beings) start building earth.. now that will be a computer.. including nuke tests and weather!
see how much an idiot with a gun can do to public emotion (and health). is it then a real priority to spend who-knows-how-much on logging user activity? IMHO we have a priority problem here.
alien cell recognition == rejection

Pigs with Human Genes
·
· Score: 5, Insightful
All cells in the body carry on their outer membranes molecules that identify them as being part of the body. now finding all these genes, cloning them all into pig cells AND removing all native pig recognition molecules would be the way to go, WERE IT NOT that the pig itself would not be viable 'cause its own cells are not recognized anymore. any slight amount of alien molecules left causes a massive attack of the host immunologic system (white blood cells etc). it is possible to overcome this _PARTIALLY_ by weakening the immunosystem with chemicals.
I reseached the possibilities of pig organ usage for transplantation.. believe me, it might be possible some day, but that day is WAY ahead of us.
the alternative of growing new organs from stem cells (ie programming from the ground up) is up to now a much more promising than modifying pigs (ie patch core components of a massive _unknown_ project while porting it to another OS)
seriously, though. what happens to all those great storage options? it seems to me that every few months someone comes up with a clever technique, but I'm still stuck with 700mb CDr's !
Well, at least linux (the newer distro's i tried like RH, Mdk, SuSe, Deb) lets you CHOOSE your security settings. None of all windows installations i performed asked me which level of security i wanted..

We are looking for more mirrors.
Do you want to mirror the IOCCC web site?
this article looks much like a well-targeted commercial! how many of you slashdotters will tell their bosses about this thingy?

looks like a nice task for the google teams..
I installed everything and it works OK.
.. i guess its not really unbreakable?
BUT
mamma mia, each page takes some 5 minutes to download! that is not a viable solution!
AND this is with a direct connection to the internet backbone in the netherlands (Surfnet). so
let's call it linux XP. and keep the version number at 2.6 so there will be a MASSIVE improvement in user eXPerience with little rearchitechturing!
wait until the mice (actually hyperintelligent pan-dimensional beings) start building earth.. now that will be a computer.. including nuke tests and weather!
i speak of none but the computer which will become after this one...

hm jes, just thinking about one of these burners makes my wallet go red..
can they fit it on one? would be nifty.. !

nope there are several possible levels, ranging from please_hack_me to completely_paranoid

I wonder, what happens when let's say 100.000 users sue the RIAA, all at once? being inventive and original, 'course...
c'mon guys, let's do it!
