...is that many IDE/SATA/etc drives are the same drive as the SCSI model, just with a different interface board.
eg, you are getting exactly the same hardware as the 900% more expensive SCSI drive, but with just a tad slower interface and maybe shorter warranty. for the same price you could buy several of the non-SCSI model drive and keep spares in the closet (or throw them in a raid configuration) and still save money.
they're not always the cheapest, but they are almost always near the cheapest.
their shipping is almost always excellent (order friday morning, get it monday afternoon) and inexpensive shipping compared to most other vendors. they must have some sweet deal with their shippers. newegg's return policy is stellar. they always have a good selection of parts in stock.
their online catalogue is really, really good. instead of just regurgitating vendor material, they take the stuff out of the box and photograph it all over so you see exactly what youre getting. afaik the only vendor who does this.
their catalogue browsing is excellent, they let you browse/search by everthing a DIY'er would want to know. chipset, memory speed, form factor, manufacturer, etc.
a lot of products have user comments and ratings, which can be helpful. a lot of other online vendors ripoff newegg's user comments/ratings, which is amusing.
newegg is one of the best online retailers, if not the best period. highly recommended. online vendors could learn a lot from newegg. it's sad that companies as excellent as newegg are very rare.:-(
there's a difference which you seem to be missing.
the proprietor of the local mini-mart might be homophobic, but hes not making it his agenda to ram his abhorrent views down everyones throats like osc does.
osc a "master writer"? your standards must be rather low.
i can see an osc mmorpg: angst-ridden teens pilot mecha around the universe. the evil empire are homosexuals, and you "free" the enslaved masses by "converting" them to heterosexuals.
Then tell me: What is his motivation? If he is not "homophobic" if he isn't "afraid" of the homosexual men and women out there, if it isn't a distaste for their "lifestyle", then what is it that makes him say those things?
the exact same thing that makes christians condemn homosexuality. "because the bible says so", end of discussion. it's a matter of religious faith and doctrine, and thus not open to debate.
what's frightening is the number of people who voted for bush not because of any of his fiscal, foreign, economic, scientific, military, educational, or any other policy -- but that the sole reason they voted for bush is because he's a christian who is against homosexuality. their church/religious leaders/etc told them it's a sin to vote for kerry. so they voted for bush.
if he composed music, i'd surely refuse to buy copies.
same reason why i refuse to give money to corporations which are aligned with the christian right wing. i dont want my dollars going to support their agenda.
buying card's books gives him financial support and implicit endorsement of his homophobic agenda, and allows him to continue it.
it's a choice. i refuse to endorse card until he removes head from his ass.
i thought orson scott card was a mediocre writer long before i learned about his homophobia and mormonism. i read ender's game, speaker for the dead, etc. and wasn't impressed at all. then i learned about his moralistic crusades, and was even less impressed.
by buying his books or encouraging others to buy them, you are financially supporting osc and his homophobic agenda. you are sending him a message, with your dollars, that you approve what he is doing, and you are giving him financial support to continue it.
you want a truly excellent writer who creates captivating stories? try larry niven.
there's no particular love between intel and bill. 'ol billy bob has strongarmed and threatened andy grove more than once.
this could just be one of billy's plans to get intel by the balls, and have total control of them. string them along for years with the promise of itanium support, then club them over the head like a baby seal at the last moment.
they didnt predict evolutions, they gambled on it.
that is to say, they desperately hoped compilers would evolve to support epic, and gambled the entire future of their technology on it.
the technology didn't pan out, and they blew their entire wad on the gamble -- they lost. bigtime. they now have a supremely expensive, fancy processor with nothing to drive it. it's an expensive boat anchor right now.
and the technology required to efficiently drive EPIC doesnt look to be coming any time soon, either.
Itanium was not designed for the desktop, or even the standard server market.
Yes it absolutely was. itanium was designed to replace ia32, totally. They wanted itanium on everything from desktop to supercomputers.
the grand master plan was for itanium to take over the world, ia32 would die a horrible death and everyone would live happily ever after with a new, elegant architecture and forget the monstrosity ia32 ever existed.
intel saw what apple managed to pull off with the 68k -> ppc architecture migration, and enviously hoped to emulate them.
intel's own current marketing literature even promotes itanium2 as an entry-level server and workstation processor! delusional at best.

looks like they are out of business.
website is down, and angry customers are up.
they're not always the cheapest, but they are almost always near the cheapest.

can you be specific?
card's works are imo mediocre, and i felt that way long before i ever found out about his homophobia.
i read ender's game, speaker for the dead, based on all the hype, and felt they were wholly unremarkable.
they might appeal to angsty teens who "identify" with ender, but thats about it.
you want a brilliant sf writer and brilliant works? larry niven and his known space stories.

every poll so far came up with the same results.
there's a difference which you seem to be missing.
the proprietor of the local mini-mart might be homophobic, but hes not making it his agenda to ram his abhorrent views down everyones throats like osc does.
theres a difference between "views which differ significantly from your own" and "views which are utterly repulsive".
however i am definitely able to engage people with abhorrent views, i just refuse to financially support their agenda by buying their products.
maybe your standards are lower.
osc a "master writer"? your standards must be rather low.

ender's game mainly appeals to all those angst ridden teens who "identify" with ender. as far as a SF story goes, ender's game is rather mediocre.
beats me how it won a hugo. i guess they must have had pretty low standards back then.
ender's game is ok, but nothing special.
you want amazing writing? try larry niven.

The Itanium is a server based processor
funny, intel's own marketing literature for itanium2 promotes it as an entry-level server and workstation processor.
it does make sense for microsoft, but it's another nail in the coffin for intel's itanium.
they didnt predict evolutions, they gambled on it.
that is to say, they desperately hoped compilers would evolve to support epic, and gambled the entire future of their technology on it.
the technology didn't pan out, and they blew their entire wad on the gamble -- they lost. bigtime. they now have a supremely expensive, fancy processor with nothing to drive it. it's an expensive boat anchor right now.
and the technology required to efficiently drive EPIC doesnt look to be coming any time soon, either.
The problem with the Itanium is that it just requires too much compiler magic to make it work well.
thats only one of the myriad of problems with itanium.
how about
* no software (and even less as itanium partners continue to abandon ship)
* much too expensive - very poor price/performance.
itanium sales would have to increase about 10 billion trillion percent for intel to recover their losses from itanium.
Itanium was not designed for the desktop, or even the standard server market.
Yes it absolutely was. itanium was designed to replace ia32, totally. They wanted itanium on everything from desktop to supercomputers.

yeah, i'm sure netbsd/ia64 will be enough to drive the entire market on its own.
pci express and pentium m arent enough to recover intel from the massive multibillion dollar flop known as itanic.
what technology would that be? everything in the itanium has been an expensive flop.
I can shine my 5mw laser across the freaking city and illuminate the side of a building miles away. Yours must be broken.
