    you don't have to generate specific malicious code in order to exploit md5.

    merely creating pure trash would be sufficient, think of the case of BIOS or other firmware. create random garbage with the same md5 hash and voila, you've turned your victim's PC/laptop/celphone/pda/etc into a doorstop.

    there are many other ways that md5 can be exploited, this is only one.

    i mean really, who the fuck keeps coming up with these retarded designs? every rio device is unusably deformed in some way or another. it looks like they always sorta start out with a decent design, then someone in marketing says "no, it's not fucked up enough" so they go around and bash all the design engineers heads with ball peen hammers until they're drooling idiots. then they come back with the ridiculous chiba design and suddenly marketing shouts "eureka!" and starts selling it immediately.

    the iriver ihp is no work of art, but it's far less annoying than the chiba or carbon.

    yep, this is exactly the same thing i've experienced. it's pretty wild stuff debating islam with them. one can only imagine all the congnitive dissonance they are forced to process all the time.

    the most amusing one i've heard from them is the argument that the koran is a book of science, and that scientific discoveries daily are "proving" the koran correct.

    also, even the most "secular" arabs i've met were still wildly antisemitic. which implies that the racism in arab societies is fundamental to arab culture and not necessarily to islam itself (though many do exploit aspects of islam to foster it)

    is that verisign accused vixie of conspiring against them to supress sitefinder, when really all vixie did was put an end user configurable switch into bind to let end users decide if they wanted to return NXDOMAIN or not. he did this to avoid a fork of bind, since many people were threatening to fork bind and implement it if he didn't.

    basically, verisign doesn't want end users to have a choice in the matter, they want sitefinder to be unilaterally forced upon all end users without their consent, and without regards to whether it breaks their apps or not (it broke several of ours!). anyone who disagrees with them is just a an anti-american, anti-commerce internet terrorist.

    one time i did do this:

    we were getting ddosed from some ISPs.

    I called several of them, and most of them shut it off when they verified it was originating from their servers.

    All except one. I talked with their admin, they verified the ddos was originating from their hosts. I asked them to shut it down and they said "well you can send us a subpoena and we will shut it down". I pointed out that by the time it took to get a subpoena the attack would have been ongoing for several days/weeks. Their response? "well thats your problem not ours".

    So we did eventually report it to law enforcement. They got subpoena'd. What happens?

    The guy who originally told me to go FOAD ends up calling me and SCREAMING at me on the phone about why police officers came to his door to serve him a subpoena. Apparently he thought i'd just go away or something, and never follow through.
