The keyword is "intentionally". I've been watching this with my girl for some time now, and we both agree that we lose time together because either or both of us is spending time online. Never intentionally giving up our time for the web, but more "just checking mail" or "I'll be over in a minute, just found something interesting". And that adds up
Yes, but before the internet, I'd say "I'll be over in a minute, just found something interesting" because my nose was in an interesting book. It's not just an online thing.
I had a car like that once. I didn't lock the doors, I parked it in bad areas, I practically stuck a "Steal me now" sign on it, and nobody took it! Thieves are getting too damn picky.
Toyota started to make cars long after Ford made theirs - even though - eeh - Ford already made cars that did all the things that the Toyota cars did.
In fact, Fords do something Toyotas don't do, namely explode.:)
Although GCC doesn't do that (that I know of), I see no problem with having an alternative. There are competing applications for everything else, from desktops (Gnome/KDE) to kernels (Linux/BSD), so why not compilers?
BTW: I never quite understood the sentiment that if someone says that a place has some good points over the USA, they're somehow not worthy of being an American. Having a citizenry that acknowledges its country's faults makes that country a better and stronger place, since they talk about the faults and strive to correct them. Blind acceptance serves no one.
I agree, as long as the criticism is fair and reasonably accurate. I do, however, get p*ssed off at the people who think the USA is the source of all evil and their own countries are pure as the driven snow.
Incidentally, the idea of the gay rights stuff is that Islamic Fundamentalists should be driven crazy, conservatives should be slightly annoyed and left wingers should have no problem. I.e. the terrorists are still extremists but they're on the opposite side of the left right spectrum than they are with respect to foreign policy. Which is useful, since you want to be able to distinguish the three groups
By that logic, Fred Phelps must be an Islamic Fundy! Not that there's much difference in the attitude of Christian vs Muslim nutjobs, but the Christian loon isn't likely to blow up airplanes (unless they're doing abortions on planes now).
Isn't that a exactly like saying you want a President who disregards the will of the people? The President's job is to execute the will of the people, not his own.
If a candidate stands for a certain position, and truly believes in that position, and people vote him into office because of that, that IS the will of the people. OTOH, if a candidate percieves that people want someone who believes that, and claims to believe that to get elected, he's more likely to "flip-flop" after he's safely into office. That, IMO, is what hurt Kerry.
The problem I had with Kerry's "flip-flops" is, his changes of mind were little more than sticking his finger in the air to see which way public opinion was blowing. I'd rather have a President that has his own values and sticks with it.
Though, I will admit that sticking with stupid failed strategies is also bad. We really need someone who has values AND the ability to learn from mistakes.
Actually, the Democrats authorized military force because it was popular at the time. They didn't mind that it was actually used. They're probably glad of it, because they can now bash the Republicans, despite the fact that they voted for it.
I agree that we need a viable 3rd party. Neither of the Big 2 are worth anything. I voted Libertarian in 2004, but I'm not really comfortable with their pro-business stance. I'd like a party that really IS for smaller government, but realizes that some government is needed to keep corporations in check.
is that MS is no longer a laughingstock. The bad news is, now we're crying instead.
Yes, but before the internet, I'd say "I'll be over in a minute, just found something interesting" because my nose was in an interesting book. It's not just an online thing.
Both! There hasn't been a legitimate reason AND Congress is too cowardly.
Nice example. He WAS allowed to speak, and then got zapped when he said something the host didn't like.
As much as I love to bash Clinton, I can't pin that on him. The Dems were useless wastes of flesh long before he became Prez.
Um, we're talking about TSA. You could have a DVD of "Are you smarter than a 5th grader", and you'd still look smarter than they are.

Guns certainly ARE Instruments of Death. Of course, so are hammers, knives, baseball bats, and Vista (the latter causes suicides).
Yup! I've been on sites where you couldn't talk about D*ck VanD***, your wris****ch, or your pet racc**n.
No, they haven't done that now. They did it ages ago.
At some point during this 3 day marathon, didn't he have to pee? If he didn't, maybe that's what killed him!
Based on my experience with W95, I'm surprised they ever discovered this bug. 8 hours of uptime was rare.

Meh! They all look alike. j/k
Well, you could always say that the Linux CLI is easier than the Windows GUI.

If the copy of Vista is illegal, the machine will slow down, crash, and become vulnerable to viruses.
So, how does that differ from legal copies?

That was 200+ years ago. Times change.

Yeah, but if Cheney's any indication, they were probably aiming for the foot.
What about the liberals who fly over the world in fuel-guzzling jets to preach about conservation?
