    I grew up in a suburb of Kansas City (MO), and I wouldn't be too upset. There actually is a Kansas City in Kansas, right across the boarder. Now, if they dare suggest that their upstart Kansas City is better than the our Kansas City.... Well those are fighting words!;)


    Good point! Obviously the Kansas portion is so unimportant that I forgot about it when I posted. :)

    How many consumers used NT (at home). For the average consumer it was W95, W98, WinME, Win XP. Only the last was NT based, and it was designed to be as unsafe (by default) as the W95 line for compatability.

    I recently got a new printer and tried to install it on my dual-boot system under Windows. I kept getting "missing driver" errors. I rebooted to Mandrake 10 and it immedeately detected the new hardware and loaded the drivers off the Mandrake CD.

    Comparing Mandrake's latest with Microsoft's latest sounds fair to me. The fact that Microsoft's latest is as old as Debian is irrelevant.

    The good thing about Lindows/Spire is that if people are using it, it will be a lot harder for M$ to pressure hardware people to make Doze only crap. If hardware will run on Lindows, it will also run on Slackware/Debian/Gentoo.

    I don't know how I would have voted if Dean had done better, but by Super Tuesday, it was clear that he wasn't getting within shouting distance of the White House (and with Dean that's pretty damn far), so I voted for him as an anti-Kerry protest. Best of a bad lot, but still not good.

    Basically, we have primary elections for the political parties. Since Bush was the incumbant, we didn't have one for the Republicans, but we got a bunch of candidates for the Democrats. They all sucked, so we tried to vote for the one who sucked least, and got the worst instead. Now, this candidate is going against Bush in the general election, and whoever wins, the American people still lose. :(

    If I were a 90 year-old, I sure wouldn't trust the OS that kept spitting out viruses and worms! That's the LAST thing a sick, elderly person should be exposed to!

    If your mom knows how to open a command-line, she could type "urpmi kewl-new-program". As a command-line person, I can't say how to do it through the GUI, but I know that it CAN be done through the GUI, and it's no harder than many Windows tasks.

    All hardware does NOT work better with Windows. At least my printer didn't. It gave me a "missing driver" error. It worked perfectly in Mandrake 10. Mozilla and FireFox are far better than IE. I will admit that Gnucash is still behind Quicken.

    Actually, slavery can be legal if the "slave" consents and if it's done right. I couldn't just sign a contract that says my friend owns me, but I probably could sign all my money & property over to him and agree to work for him for room and board. Legally, I could quit, but I'd have no money or house or car or even credit cards.

    Of course, if I did any such thing, I should be institutionalized, but that's not the point.
