Blackout Week Continues
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
It may be the most EXPENSIVE blackout ever, but it still had much less effect on the people affected than some icestorms. In 2002, I was in an icestorm that knocked out power for 1-4 WEEKS! Granted, it affected no more than 500,000, some of whom got power back in a few days, but it was far more disruptive than a overnight or even a weekend blackout.
Actually, while I think Hanzo's jumping the gun with his terrorist fears, looting & rioting is a serious concern! Some people are just looking for an excuse anyway.
Actually, SuSe is probably better than RH in the "just works" department. But I do agree that this is a good thing. Certainly RH is doing it for their own interests, but it also helps the community.
Actually, the headline, though biased, is correct. If non-Microsoft code is responsible for half the crashes, then by definition, Microsoft is responsible for half the crashes.
Actually, every witch had her day in court. Well, she DID have to be gagged so she couldn't cast spells. I suppose that MIGHT make it hard for her to tell her side of the story. But she would have lied anyway, and that man was a Christian (tm) and never would have slept with her if she hadn't cast a spell!
A question: Will KMyMoney2 install on any KDE system? My big gripe with Gnucash is that you can't compile the damn thing! If your distro doesn't have it, or even if it does but you want a later version, you're screwed!
One would think that Red would mean that the govt knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that something is about to happen. If that were the case, they'd probably be able to stop it, and there is little reason to be alarmed.
Probably true, but it's ironic that we'd probably be safer on red alert than on yellow!
The only way to prevent terrorism is to maintain a high state of alert all the time. Even this isn't completely foolproof - look at Israel - where EVERYBODY is CONSTANTLY on their
guard since bombs go off just about every day, and yet the bombs still go off every day (well, not very recently due to the Hamas truce, but we'll see how long that lasts).
I don't think it's POSSIBLE to maintain a high state of alert in peacetime. People eventually relax and get sloppy. That would happen in Israel too, if they had a long enough period of peace.
Green - the lowest alert. That's when everyone's sleeping.
Blue - I'm not clear on this one, but it has something to do with KMart.
Yellow - Our standard color.
Orange - We get bumped there when there's a percieved threat. Or maybe Tom Ridge has gas, I'm not sure which.
Red - Hasn't ever happened yet. Presumably, we'll go to red when the Terrorists (tm) are coming right at us yelling "Jihad!" at the top of their lungs.
Give it a few years. When I was 20, I weighed 130 pounds at 6'1" and I ate more than any 3 normal people. Now I'm 42, weigh 200 pounds, and eat a tiny fraction of what I used to.:(
It's the usual problem - the lesser of two evils. Personally, I voted for Bush because I didn't want "Internet Al" in there. If the Dems have one of their usual losers in 2004, I may STILL vote for Bush! Personnally, I'd PREFER Harry Browne, but he didn't have a chance, and my state could have gone either way so I voted for the lesser evil.
Mainly because nobody WANTS a free for all! It's much better to stick with ONE kernel. Everyone follows Linus partly because he started it in the first place, and partly because of his excellent reputation.

I'm sure all their engineers are busy right now!

AFAIK, there's no reason to ASSume terrorism. Granted, official reports at this time are unreliable, but I don't see any reason to assume the worst.
Maybe it means SCO will get it's arms torn out of their sockets!

When I tried it out, my Windows programs crashed even more often than they did under Doze, but OS/2 itself kept chugging along.

"Do you want fries with that?"
Actually, after being around for a few hundred thousand years, I'd start taking risks out of sheer boredom!
Well, they ARE delicious, but I wouldn't actually SUE for one!
He certainly SHOULD be, more so than she. After all, she was just the friend of an insider. He's the fsking CEO!

I probably watch more TV, but it's much better quality, since I'm not limited to whatever's on at that time.

Juicy Juice IS 100% fruit juice. However it still has too many calories for weight loss.
But you'd be in trouble in one of those long boring meetings that I get stuck in!
Netcraft is dying!

You can go back to your Python program in 6 months and still understand it.

Ditto for CompUSA. They haven't had Mandrake since 8.2.
