I agree! TWM is, well, nothing! Just an xterm to run X programs at the command line. KDE is ok on a brand new box, but on older boxen it's a big fat pig (Gnome too). Xfce provides some functionality, but it's much faster than KDE/Gnome, and I like it better than the other "mid-size" envionments that I've tried.
I agree! My main complaint about Slackware was that major upgrades were a PITA. With swaret, I upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1-rc2 so easily I almost thought I was using Debian.
Maybe, but until recently if you needed SMP, BSD wasn't even an option! If you need support for the latest hardware BSD may not be an option. For many people Linux IS better than BSD!
Well, I'm 6'1", but my legs are probably at least as long as yours, and while I don't need a BIG car, I can't fit into, say, an Escort. My current car is a 2003 Saturn L200.
I disagree on taxes. They're too high. Bush is half-right on tax cuts. The problem is, he's also cranking up spending. So do the Democrats. We need spending cuts.
Even monopolies have limits. Contrary to popular belief, music is not a life-and-death need and if the RIAA p*ss off enough people they may stop buying their crap and they'll dry up and blow away. Or maybe the people will contact their Congress critter and remind him/her/it that no amount of money will get them elected if they p*ss off the voters!
Good point about Mars being a place you could walk around. Like the moon, you'd need spacesuits, but even WITH spacesuits I don't think we could handle the conditions on Venus or Mercury, and the outer planets are just giant balls of gas (insert Uranus joke here).
Modern Linux distros don't REQUIRE much technical ability, but the very fact that you CHOOSE Linux puts you ahead of Joe Winpack who just grabs whatever is at Best Buy. Until you can walk into Best Buy and get a RedHat computer as easily as an XP box, the "average" Linux user will be more knowledgable than the "average" Windows user.
Slackware has been using glibc for years. It was late to the party, but it's there now. Slackware 9 is far more current than Debian stable, and more reliable (IME) than Debian unstable. I'll admit it's a PITA to upgrade something big like KDE (or Gnome).
Transporting myself wasn't the problem. Being forced out of my house for a whole week because the power/heat was out was the problem! And I had it better than most. At least my mother still had power/heat so I could stay with her, and I was only without power for ONE week (without internet access for two), whereas some people were out for FOUR weeks with NO good place to stay.

They may not be "allowed" to, but I'm sure they do it anyway.
Is Joe Voter related to Aunt Tillie? I hear she compiles her own Linux kernel.
I've heard the terms, but I wonder if the government remembers them.
If that is what our government has turned into, heaven help us!
that Gnome is dying?

I heard that 75% of our space budget was going to Uranus!

AFAIK, there was no /. article about RH's install ads.
Hey, at least the damn thing doesn't krash!
Armor? They have armor?

Maybe the command-line stuff would, but it would sure be fun trying to run KDE or Gnome on a 386!
Problem is, the fools who swallow the RIAA crap will likely stick to Windows.

1. It will be released around Thanksgiving.
2. It will have a serious data-eating bug like Linus's other Thanksgiving kernels.
So, should Linus rewrite the kernel in ADA? :)

Does that include your post?

BILL Clinton can't run again; Presidents are limited to 2 terms. However, Hilary could run! I guess if she won, Bill would be First, um, whatever!
That might work for you, but the only moving water on my propery is when the neighbor's dog lifts his leg.
