  2. Single Source on Net: Now Our Most Serious News Medium? · · Score: 1

IMHO, the greatest strength of internet news is its diversity. If you randomly pick a single website and a single TV station, odds are TV will be more reliable. However, there is little difference between CBS, NBC, ABC, or CNN. On the WWW there's vast diversity. There's plenty of pure crap, but you don't have to hunt long to find great stuff. TV is a homogenus(sp) bland mess.

  3. Re:pervasive big business, even dairy on Net: Now Our Most Serious News Medium? · · Score: 1

You're correct. One problem with the TV media is that they are all owned by Big Business(tm). In fact they're often owned by the same Big Businesses. You can't expect a network that receives $$$,$$$ from the dairy industry to say anything against milk. It's much easier and cheaper to control a website than it is to control a TV station, so the website are able to give THEIR opinion, not the opinion of Big Business(tm). And I've cut out milk/cheese after reading the site and a book written by the author of the site(I'm blanking on the name of the book :( )

I'm using 2.4.10 at home, and there's a good chance I'll bump it to 2.4.12 over the weekend. But if I ever convinced my bosses to let me use Linux at work, I wouldn't even use a 2.4 kernel unless there was a good reason. I'd stick with 2.2.19.

I assume that our government would turn those SOB's over to whatever country their crime was in(hopefully one where they chop off body parts). If, however, those criminals were close friends of the government, and they sat on their hands even when their guilt was clear, that country would be right to hold the U.S. government responsible, just as we hold the Taliban responsible for what their "guest" has done.

Still a flawed analogy. Try this one:

The protester is punched in the face by an assailant who promptly disappears. The protesters head for the neighborhood where the assailant comes from, demand that the gang of street thugs, who are known associates of the assailant, hand over the assailant so they can beat the crap out of him, and when their demands aren't met, proceed to beat the crap out of everyone in the gang.

I love the part about being in control of my system, but I'm concerned about hard drive space. My current distro eats up almost 2G, and I doubt that LFS would be much smaller if I want KDE2 & enough of Gnome to run gnucash. It sure wouldn't fit on a 750MG partition as their website indicates.

In fighting, off the top of my head, I can't think of any Kirk vs Spock fights besides the two already mentioned. In both of them Spock was winning(though there was no conclusive ending). Kirk does have the sheer grit to keep fighting even when he's clearly outclassed, but my money's on Spock.
