In Missouri, I have to renew mine every 6 years (in fact I'm due in a few months). It does have an "expiration date", and though I don't have to prove I can drive, I do have to prove I haven't gone blind (eye test).
For web stuff, my Chromebook is better than my tablets or phones. And much cheaper than my workhorse laptops, though obviously it's not going to replace a real laptop anytime soon.
This is brand new tech, everyone who has it still has a beta version of the end product if my memory serves me right. of course its not perfect yet. but the concept is amazing (negating the creepy factor) and im sure after a generation or 2 all the kinks i keep reading about will be ironed out.
This is Google. After 2 generations and it's in common use, it will still be beta.
I used to walk to the grocery store. But over the years, many grocery stores closed, including the one that was one block from my house (and I've been griping about THAT for 15 years:-P ). Now the closest store is over a mile away, and between that and my busy schedule, it's not feasible to walk to the store anymore.
Filthy rich people don't continue to get filthy rich off of one another.
Why not?
It's possible at least at the national level (so long as you treat filthy rich in a way that's relative to most of the poor on the planet). I can't see why the same thing can't scale down at least somewhat towards individuals.
Very few millionaires buy 20 cars. However, most people who earn 50K have at least one car. You get more economic stimulation from 20 middle class people than from one rich bozo, even though the money is equal.
I remember trying to research into prehistoric music at college and I couldn't get on any sites that had the word homo in, ie Homo-sapiens, homo-erectus etc. Truly sad.
Yeah, homo-erectus would trigger gay AND porn filters.
Awhile back, 60 Minutes had a story on the No-Fly list, and there was a terrorist named "Robert Johnson", IIRC (if not, it was something similarly common), and a whole bunch of people were screwed from that one.
If they don't do something to sort this out soon, Steve B will be remembered for only 2 things - throwing chairs while making threats and fucking the PC industry so hard it died. And Steve - if you by the slightest chance happen to read this, is this really *all* you want to be remembered for?
Nowadays, even dishwashing jobs require a high school diploma or GED.
I don't have a source, since I heard it from a FOAF (friend of a friend), but I heard McDonalds is asking for college grads for some entry-level jobs now!
Why not call it "Java Blew"?

I might find fifty people who know Cro Magnon, but I'd be lucky to find five who know $MyRealIdentity.

In the case of Facebook, that would be a good thing.

If they piss of enough people, they're dead. It won't happen quickly, but in time their 1 billion customers will shrink a few million at a time.
Because nobody who uses Windows multitasks, right?
Not anymore, with 8. :(
A 4" smartphone. Even the 7" tablet is big for that purpose.
A lot of people living in today's poverty live better than those NOT in poverty a few centuries ago.

meh... they're probably robots in disguise.
And they run the Android OS.

for the mix of avian and swine flu. Beware, the Flying Pig Flu!
No, but it means it's not a Bush43 problem. It's a "leaders of both parties are assholes" problem.
There's still a solution. Horses! I bet you can still go around on horses and not get stopped by the TSA.

But, it fails to catch some Windows malware, and that's the proof.
So, 25% of Android users are on 4.X and 40% are on 2.X? That's only 65%. Does that mean the other 35% are still on Android 1.X?
Sounds simple to me. Sue whoever has the deepest pockets.
IIRC, Windows 95 was only preemptive with 32 bit programs. It was still cooperative with 16 bit Windows programs.
Windows 95 was a 32bit extension to a 16bit application that ran on an 8bit operating system that ran on a processor worth 2 bits.
And made by a company that couldn't stand 1 bit of competition. :)

He also did a good monkey dance.
