My workplace is still XP. I've heard that we'll eventually go to Win7. I figure, after W7, we'll probably upgrade to Win12, probably when everyone else is using Win14.
Security is neither sexy nor cool, so Apple will never put too much effort in it. They are more concerned to make things easy for the user, and the problem is that sometimes good security makes things harder for the user. Apple's decision will always fall on the easier-for-the-user side, if given a choice.
Microsoft made that mistake, and that's why it got its much deserved reputation for crappy security. Hopefully, Apple will wise up.
Personal anecdote: I couldn't find anybody who was willing to fix some damage to my 1990 Subaru Legacy. It's not that it wasn't fixable, it's just that they literally couldn't find the required part. Even ignoring that the cost would have been greater than the insurance value of the car, I literally couldn't find any shop in the area that would take my money to do it, because the car has been out of production for so long that the wrecking yards had even sold off all their working copies of that part.
Interestingly, I have a similar tale of woe. Last year my old washing machine went pfft. I bought it back in the 1980s. At a used appliance place, so who knows how old it really was. A few months prior, it had needed fixing and the tech had a hell of a time finding parts, told me that he expected another part to fail and there was no chance in hell of him finding the parts to fix that. So, I didn't even try to get the last problem fixed. I had to buy another machine.
Nothing is "supported" forever, and PCs are known to be relatively short-lived compared to other, simpler appliances.
If it's good, I'd say so. If it sucks, well, then I'd have some thinking to do. Of course, if a company is relying on ME to do their PR, it's probably near bankruptcy anyway.:-P
If they would "give" me a Nokia 900 without a 2 year contract, then I'd be interested. Heck, if I had to pay for a Nokia 900 without a 2 year contract, I'd be interested.
If your product gets a reputation for leaking your username, email, and password, people will eventually switch to a more secure competitor. I know a lot of people who switched to FireFox when IE was having security problems every day.
Drive to my GF's, then to the casino, to some eating place, sometimes to a walking trail, and maybe additional driving for fun. All at various and widely separated corners of the city. By the time I drop her back at her house at head back to mine, that's another 100+ miles on my car.
But, at this point they'll have fun finding 12 people who haven't heard how Zimmerman is an evil racist who goes around shooting black children in cold blood.
OTOH, when both the killer & victim are black, not only does it not make the national/international news, but it barely makes page 4 on the local news.
Yeah, I still remember when my GF's sister asked me if she should get a Vista laptop with 512MB RAM. I advised against it and told her my opinion on what should be done to vendors who crammed Vista on a 512MB box. It wasn't pretty.
OTOH, if you expect a 2% and ask for 50%, you'll probably get fired without any negotiation.
Still in trouble if it's a 0-day virus (no available patch/vaccine).
Android will probably still be around. But maybe Nokia would be killed by its Android competitors.

Not only has Al Gore hurt the GW movement PR wise, but he has also spewed out more hot gasses than most large businesses.

At least he didn't say "pissed on" which means something else entirely.

To thunderous applause?

I guess you don't use Windows Calculator?
I'm a newbie (or is that gnubie) to Gnucash, but while I might trust it to track my regular finances, I would not trust it for tax preparation.

You must live in a small town. I routinely drive over 100 on a Saturday.
I agree, and if I lived 1.5 miles from work I'd walk. Except when it's 100 degrees, or -20, or raining cats, dogs, and hippos.
A gated community that had been robbed multiple times.

I'd give you mod points if I hadn't already shot my mouth of here.

Have you read the FM? If anything, those manuals are even worse than the user interfaces!

I've heard some of those British shows. I find it easier to understand Spanish. And I don't even SPEAK Spanish.
In my HS, if they booted everyone who swore, it would have been one damn, fucking, empty building.
