Untrue. In many states it is illegal to sell, make, purchase, transport, etc. any material deemed "obscene". Why do you think we still hear about "Penthouse" or whatever being seized and the hapless clerks hauled away to jail? SCOTUS have repeatedly ruled in favor of the "community standards" laws that restrict the sale of movies, books, etc, so don't think they're going away anytime soon.

The worst part about the "community standards" doctrine is that it is unfair to national distributors/publishers, where a game/movie/magazine may be fine in one city is "breaking the law" in another.

About 4 years ago I bought parts for a computer I was building, including a Tbird 750 socket A. I had just gotten around to start installing the heatsink when I had to go somewhere. When I returned, I put the heatsink on and finished the build out. For 2 weeks I had problems with my new computer randomly freezing. I tried replacing parts, etc. Finally, I was going through the BIOS one last time when I decided to look at the PC Health section. The CPU temp said 94C. I thought that was a bit high, so I opened it up and took off the heatsink. Yeah, you're supposed to take the plastic shield off the TIM right? :D

Proc still works to this day.

About a year ago, my father was having a problem with his Celeron comp freezing. The first thing I checked was the heatsink. It was on backwards, and the heatsink was tilted, not even touching the die!

The US has held a peaceful stance for a long time. A US president negotiated a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine. If a rabid dog bites you, you don't try to reason with it. You destroy it. Peace has not work in the Middle East EVER. America has tried helping those in need and negotiating with both sides and generally tried to maintain peace. You have seen the results of those efforts. It's time for a new strategy. I know you don't live in the US, but think about it. What if your capitol was bombed by an extreme terrorist group? How would you feel then?

  16. Re:Jurisdiction on Say Here Why Sklyarov Should Go Free · · Score: 1

Following your analogy, it's the same as if a Dutch citizen arranged for a hundred pounds of hash to be shipped to the US - even if he never leaves his house to do it, it's still a crime under US law the instant that stuff touches US soil, and therefore falls under US jurisdiction. Not exactly. A shipment to the country is entirely different! Now if the hash salesman (selling in the Netherlands) hired a secretary, and the secretary came to the US (without the hash of course), could the secretary be arrested for drug trafficking? That would be an more accurate analogy. The US doesn't have anywhere near the jusrisdiction to justify arresting Mr. Sklyarov, everything else aside. Ravendas
