Your post sounds like the anxious confused ramblings of a prisoner in a grocery store after years of choosing between the slop or the gruel at the mess hall. Hang in there, being an empowered consumer is a little scary at first.
The Brooklyn man was quoted as saying "it all started as a way to find out if there was really any place at all where I could get good reception on the iphone". When the phone landed there were 7 voicemail messages, 13 text messages, and 16 emails that were all sent several days prior but had managed to download at about 5 vertical miles.
i had a bad feeling when i read the summary, but when I saw the picture of the thing it became very clear what is going to happen. I've seen enough sci-fi to know that thing is definitely going to turn on the crew when it gets up there. It will probably sample everyone's voices and for years it will provide radio communication and no one will realize that astronaut and cosmonaut corpses are circling the earth. Then it will watch from above as it figures out ways to manipulate government intelligence and pits America against the former USSR until both countries are annihilated.
exactly. I would use data much more often on my iphone if it actually worked anywhere. instead I find myself looking over the shoulders of my colleagues surfing the net at conferences on their verizon droids while my iphone sits there looking at me reading 'no signal'.
wow, shame on the anonymous troll that posted this and the moderators that must have been teleported from the early 90s. The high-end transcription packages are truly incredible. Yes, you need to spend some time training them to your speech patterns and accent, and yes it makes a big difference if you use a quality microphone (not the one that's built into your laptop or iphone) at a fixed distance. With a decent setup transcription software can be really impressive at high speeds and with complicated vocabulary - talk to a doctor in a large modern hospital - many are trusting these systems with their patients medical record information, and these guys have high expectations when it comes to transcriptions because they are used to having very skilled ears listen to them mumbling jargon quickly for their transcriptions.
Having anything but a really good setup can be really frustrating though - maybe slashdot tinkerers have dabbeled and written these kinds of apps off. I do imagine that it wouldn't be worthwhile using anything but the top dictation apps if you want to avoid any serious post-editing.
Saying a tablet isn't a full blown computer is not forward thinking. That's like saying 10yrs ago, you're crazy for wanting to use email on your phone, a cell phone has a niche and this is what it does - accept it. Apple loves this kind of thinking.
Realistically though - who wants to carry around multiple portable devices? Should I use my netbook for somethings, my laptop for others, and my full-blown computer for yet other things? Marketing departments everywhere are screaming YES! but really, a lightweight portable device that runs a similar platform to whatever I sit in front of at work and that has as few limitations as possible will clearly dominate the market at some point. The demand for performance and user interface will always be highest on portable devices - if you are bothering to lug something around with you in a world saturated with computer terminals - the thing you are carrying around better make itself snappy and easy to use or it gets left behind. I'll wait until I get home to check my email rather than lug some piece of junk on the bus that takes one minute to boot, 3min to connect to some sort of network and another 3min to get into my email. Apple has recognized this and windows has not. As soon as someone makes something that incorporates Apple's understanding of the UI but makes a tablet style computer instead of a toy, the idea that your tablet has to be a specialty niche device evaporates - it becomes just another portal to your digital world.
I bet. They must be sooo angry about all this mysterious free hype and viral press coverage.
Conspiracy theory or not, leaving a partially crippled prototype of a near release ready product in a silicon valley bar and letting the internet take care of the rest comes across as good business one way or another.
I think apple and ATT are going to pull through this mess, I think their investors are going to do just fine regardless of what happens to this young journalist.
"and we should all hope that more companies will begin offering this procedure in other states soon."..and we should all be weary of this kind of language.
that's why Mac fans prefer fat chicks, yeah you pay more when you go out on dates and they're not as good in bed, but you don't have to worry about viruses.
It's the fact that it does force you to really stay out that seems to be the crux to me. It's hard not to practically hemorrhage money hanging out in any large city (I'm sure Tokyo is no exception). I imagine you might start to reach the point of diminishing returns by being out in the city so much and not having a kitchen.
I've heard that the depth is not enough to accommodate Jenna Jameson's rack at full screen, but works well for most natural sets. I just hope this thing comes with a windshield wiper built onto the screen.
I love this backwards idea, it will bring ATT one step closer to finally losing it's market dominance and allowing people to actually choose which company they use to carry their voice and data.

this smells more like an add than an article.
you are clearly not an AT&T customer.
Go in a dark room, aim a bright flashlight at a ceiling, and see what happens.
Thanks a lot you insensitive clod - I did that and the bat living up there came down and bit me.

btw. this twitter thing is not on at the same time as reality tv is it? because i'd hate to miss that.

sounds like a foolproof plan that should garner overwhelming support - why wait, let's implement!

and we should all drink the kool-aid.
good point. The movie "A bug's Life" was actually based on the Kafka story.
I put mine on vibrate mode, inserted it into a hooker's vagine and had all of my friends call my number.
It wasn't easy retrieving it, but it still works. I just have these funny bumps around my ears and cheek now.

the next version of flash will be obsolete, dead on arrival. it will be mourned by few.
they just don't want us to know that it's about 40%borg and 15%greys
I cook with sand you insensitive clod!
don't get too excited, it's not functional yet. Trying this out, you just get a "coming soon" message on the iphone.

i think they should use the mission control channel on somafm as background music throughout the day.

and wonders what goes through the salmon's mind whilst doing so.
