The leadership of this country has a wildly overblown sense of self-importance. Even if we were to lose every politician in Washington, we have the largest prison population in the world, a vast pool from which to build a new government.
"The board of Community High School District 128 voted unanimously on Monday to require that all students participating in extracurricular activities sign a pledge agreeing that evidence of "illegal or inappropriate" behavior posted on the Internet could be grounds for disciplinary action."
Clearly this school is just preparing its students for the America of tomorrow.
The question is too abstract for most Americans. Instead of "do you care if the NSA has access to the numbers you call?" they should do some digging and ask "why did you call 555-6789 six times last week?". Somehow I feel this would generate a completely different emotional response.
That was my first thought too. And you would think a big flat foam panel would float to earth pretty gracefully and not be a big problem. I knew the thermal tiles were brittle, but I had no idea they were this fragile.
Maybe they should consider some sort of ablative shield over the leading edges to cushion them on launch which would then burn off during the process of re-enty. I don't think the aerodynamic characteristics of the shuttle's wings matter much as it's riding those two roman candles into orbit.
I'm no great fan of cable companies in general, but at least in Atlanta the exact opposite has happened - when Comcast took over for ATTBI here, my monthly rate DROPPED $5/month. So far I have no complaints.
The installation process, OTOH, has been something of a mixed bag. I've had three installation appointments (one for the cable modem, one revisit for the cable modem, and another to install phone service), and I've had everything from detail-oriented perfectionists to guys whose skill didn't go much beyond drilling holes in the wall. I've heard pretty much the same from others with Comcast installations. But once working it tends to stay that way.
After putting up with BellSouth's DSL bullsh*t for all these many years, I'm happy to say that they're no longer getting money out of me.
So what does this say about the American "War On Terror"?
