They won my heart with this release. I'm a long time slackware/dropline gnome user but this distro takes the best out of Debian coupled with the latest kernels and Gnome. I had never tried Debian before because the packages were too slow but I have no complaints with this distro!
the javascript is displayed when another tab is in focus and seems to appear from another tab. This is a usability problem anyways because you should have a way of knowing where the JS popup comes frome exactly.
Having two or more monitors is way more efficient. You do not have to remember what is on each screen, you can just look at it. I've used two monitors a lot and I have to say that going back to single monitor sucks. Using a virtual monitor helps but it's not nearly as interesting as having real monitors in front of you.
I have to agree with you on that one. I don't care if my beer takes 3 months to get right so long as it's damn good at the end. However if this is just optimizing an existing process without affecting the taste I'm all for it!:)
I saw the protests on Canadian and British news. Sure CNN had a segment on it but it didn't take nearly as much time as the dozen people emptying wine bottles in the gutter. Why shoudl 12 people take up as much time as that when millions were in the street?
"Actually, I still think the wine-dumping and yes, the renaming of French fries and toast, were entirely appropriate."
My question to you is why? France told you it was wrong to invade because a) Saddam was not a threat, b) there were no WMDs (except small missiles that could reach 150kms and were being destroyed with the help of UNMOVIC) and c) there were no links between Saddam and Al Quaeda. As far as I see the French were right on all counts. Furthermore it later was proven that the Bush administration lied. Perhaps that is why they didn't accept that the French disagreed with their lies. Because they couldn't prove they were right they preffered to insult their historical allies.
Character assasination is used when there are political asses to protect. In this case France was right to point out that the Bush administration lied to Americans and the world. It was easier for the Bush administration to dismiss by insulting than to try to prove its own lies.
Humans are way too manipulative to have all kinds of hate mongering online. Just look at all that "Hate the French!" on American TV. It's just so easy to make you hate someone (think Golstein) so that you don't see what is wrong with the war.
It pissed me right off when I saw CNN and FoxNews cover the story of about 12 people pouring French wine down the gutter but not covering the millions of people pouring through the streets in support of the French view of not invading for stupid reasons.
I'm glad hate speeches are being actively pursued. Most times it is easier to blame people than to fix the issue. That is what hate speech laws try to change.
this raise in CO2 could be attributed to the numerous forest fires in the last 3 years (in the chronological order I remember France, Spain, Portugal, Canada and the US). My guess is this isn't some CO2 coming from the sea or the great tundra just yet. Mind you I'd be looking out for that soon.
Of course anomalous amounts of forest fires could be due to lower than average rain falls, which could be due to polution and heat creation something nature could do without.
you cannot fire someone so easily and call him crazy. You have to give him chances. If he does something stupid like running SETI@home on a production server he could be told in writing that his actions caused harm to the company/departement and that he should not do it again. After 3 minor warnings he's fired. Of course you can always give someone the boot if he does something really stupid like not come to work for three weeks without warning.
could the barrel prices have something to do with invading some oil-rich country? Of course you can kid yourself that the daily explosions in Bagdad have nothing to do with oil prices rising but then again lots believed Bush and Co when they said that Iraq had WMDs and were tied to Al Quaeda.
Now my assertion was that trickle up economy is what works, not trickle down. Lowering taxes for the rich only make rich people richer. Poorer people are the ones who spend their tax credits not the rich people. The lower to middle class tax cuts can make an economy roll!
Bush and Co said they cut taxes for the rich to help the economy but it was a lie like many other things, they only helped themselves. Sure you can put any rethoric in front of me like "rich people pay more than their fair share of taxes" but honestly I won't care too much. They got rich because the economy was healthy and they want to ruin it now so they can get a bit richer. When someone writes laws for the country he has to think of what is best for the country not for his rich friends. My neighboor could use a 200$ tax cut to get his car back on the road. It doesn't take much but 1000 poorer people getting a 200$ tax credit helps the economy more than a rich fsck getting a 20000$ tax credit. In the first case 1000 people spend 200$ whereas in the second, one person can put even more money in his caymen island bank account.
If I lost my job I'd blame the president. Who's fault is it that the barrel shot up to 52$?
Petrol prices aside, he's also lowering taxes the wrong way. It's all about who you lower the taxes for. Someone really rich who already owns everything he needs getting a 20000$ tax reduction won't be spending that tax reduction. He'll put it in his caymen island account or something. However 100 lower to middle class people getting a 200$ tax break will use the tax break to get the urging things in their life, like changing that timing belt or fixing the crack in the foundation. Heck I know I could use 200$ less taxes this year.
That trickle down economy principle only works in some cases, when the rich don't mind spending the money they get. But the truth is a trickle up economy is more likely to work. We, the poorer people are the ones who spend money because we don't have all we want or *need*. We are the ones who make the economy roll. Lowering taxes for us does something substantial to the economy and to jobs in general. Lowering for the rich just makes rich people richer.
Does this mean chimps like the UNIX philosophy?

Even chimps apply the general idea behind the first point of the UNIX philosophy: "Make each program do one thing well. To do a new job, build afresh rather than complicate old programs by adding new features."
AIDS means: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and we say someone has AIDS if they have acquired the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus works by attacking your immune system's foundation: white blood cells. In seronegative people (people without HIV) white blood cells take care of killing off any "exotic cells" that can get you sick. White blood cells work by recognising a cell's signature (a mixture of protein and/or enzymes) but the AIDS virus has a stealth system (a protein or enzyme) which fakes a signature similar to one common in other cells found in your body. To add insult to injury the white blood cells are what the AIDS virus uses to reproduce. It enters a white blood cell and uses it as food and shelter until it can divide a few times and burst out in bigger numbers. Scary isn't it?
It's a real challenge for doctors around the world and they're trying all kinds of angles. Many have tried to change the protein shell of the aids virus, making the white blood cells more "intelligent" and all kinds of other things. So far AIDS is winning. Use condoms or be in a faithful relationship with a seronegative person(someone without AIDS), or if you believe in that you can always abstain.
why do you have to poke at France? Cause they told you the war was stupid and they were right? Why is it cool to poke at them? Is it the same reason the smart kid in class gets poked at? For a bunch of nerds I feel this behaviour is counter productive.

that isn't true. They included it but it isn't the default anymore. I don't mind that at all.

and it beats all the other remote programs hands down!
When will slashdot have standard compliant XHTML/CSS code?

that's not *intelligence war* but *war on intelligence*.
wether you support Bush or not this is fascism.

actually, parent is my brother(that sentence sounds weird); I just want to make sure his comment is public so he has to carry through with it ;)

what planet do you come frome? DRM sucks, it's a way to get prices as high as possible.

gravity really pull you down.
When you have two words, each with their own distinct meaning and one of them is used for both meanings your language didn't evolve. It devolved.

Silly putty of course! What else did you think it was for?
It sounds like total hogwash to me.
