    I think the question of morality comes in on how the different countries governments, and people react. Is India opening all of it's markets to US goods? Have they dropped tarifs on US goods and services? If they are sucking out our jobs, but not putting anything back, that is immoral.

    The other moral question is, what are US businesses (and the government) doing to help people in the short term? If we assume that the economy will recover, and the jobs will recover.... We still need to help people until that happens.

    Is it immoral for China works to do all our cheap labor, but to artifically close the country to US products (by manipulating the monetary value)?

    It's fine to have a global economy, but everyone must agree to participate at the same level, the same playing field. The US job market doesn't need to be the sacrefic to building a job market in other countries.

    So use a MySQL type license... Free to other open source developers, big (actually small) bucks to for-profit users. And make big bucks selling support and consulting.

    Don't forget, if you plan to just write software, and sell it... You will be providing support out of your own pocket, or sell support contracts (see #x on the list). I have never seen something that was write once, sit back and watch the profits roll in, retire to Mexico.

    Again, assuming free as in gratis vs free as in open. Billy hates open. And the only reason he does gratis is to kill off something else, or control a market. I would have to say the way that MS is going after linux & opensource, that yes... he is fanatical about it. A zealot even.

    If we never enforce anything because someone else may have done it and gotten away with it, then slowly laws will stop being enforced...

    Since W was doing hard drugs in his youth, and wasn't prosecuted, then we should just abandon enforcement of drug laws...

    If the Dems were doing this before, why did the Reps persue criminal investigations? They must remember watergate, and want revenge....

    If someone broke into someone else's system, that they do not have direct authorization for, then (according to current feelings) it is terrorism, and the people involved should be hunted down and tried as such. Just think of all the poor kids in prison for hacking (that didn't do anything destructive....)

    The more important point to consider.. Blue collar jobs could be shed because we could retry the people up in the food chain. Give them better education, and "easier" working conditions. But if we export our tech industry (or any industry) we have to ask what we are going to replace the jobs with? Do you want fries with that?

    Look around the world. In maybe civilized countries people are considered young adults until 22-24... We have plenty of time to work.....

    This whole argument shouldn't be about outsourcing of jobs, but what the great american society is doing about it. If we continue to try to up-source american workers, while letting lessor skilled positions go off-shore, great. But if we always have to find ways to push up. Right now, there is great apothey in trying to push up for outplaced computer workers. Maybe when Silican Valley becomes a ghost town like Detroit and the steel towns will we see it as a problem.

    Just because someone will pick up on this and think "Yeah, that makes sense.... Linux is bloated, let's just stay with Win XP"

    You don't use all of the code that is in the Linux codebase. If nothing else there are lots of drivers you'll never user (and therefore never load because they are modules (which only get loaded when used)), there are different hardware ports in there, SMP may/may not be used by you, etc, etc.

    It may be 5 million lines, but you could still have a really small compiled kernel from all of that....

    But, speaking of performance... Maybe we need a movement for all of the major Open Source projects to dedicate a major/minor release JUST to do optimization and performance improvements.

    You've clearly made my point. Liberal depends on how you spin it.

    You also make the assumption that the increased government would be run by conservatives vs people who care about the people they work for (vs the businesses that they work for). Conservatives (and most of the main stream candiates) want Power, which is why the run for office. We really need to get in the people who want to serve.

    Sounds like typical Republican/Conservative name calling. You can say the same thing two ways.... 1) Liberals what move government control, 2) Liberals believe that a progressive (active) government can make a better life for the general population... Generally the Liberal tag these days is applied in the number 1 way with a more negative connotation, vs a more positive way of thinking.

    Just like saying Conservatives what to force religion in to everyone's lives and to screw the individual in favor of the business elite fatcats
