Actually they were demoralised people just coming out of war, in deep recession and there was a very persuasive man offering a way out. Once your in your in.
Don't use examples for which you know nothing about. I find what happened in WWII horrific (my grandparents had to live and fight through it, I see the tears in my grandmothers eyes).
Now lets analyise things: Many people on this board, and i assume in general in America are screaming for vengance. Understandable. But what makes those posting on here that every arab should be wiped out ANY DIFFERENT to those in Germany after WWI? Ohh, NOTHING. So in future, don't use examples that make you look hypocritical.
I've said many times before, yesterday was horrific, but when you use examples like this jerk, it brings everything home. The average joe can be manipulated easily. Just look at what the media can do.
I was reading in a newspaper today of the kind of situations that similar suicide bombers (you cannot assume yet who is responsible) are put through.
Children are chosen as young as ten to train to become suicide attackers, and are constantly led to believe by holy men that this is the right thing to do. Some religions base their arguement on seven promises that suicide attackers will gain once doing their "job" including a place in paradise, many beautiful women as their wives, and places for friends and family in paradise too. Oh, and all sins forgiven. Imagine that being drummed into a young, impressionble child from an early age?
Its not until later that they may get some kind of training. Probably they specialise, as GypC said. Then maybe they are placed for months or years working in places like airports to get in position.
These people would be totally trained, and also they would have total belief on their side. Religion is a powerful thing to many people, so they will fight their upmost to get to target. They aren't called "fanatics" for nothing.
Surely though if hijackers were aware of a pilots inability to open the doors (and hence become under control of the hijackers) then hijacking a plane with become a futile objective. Ok, you may kill a hundred people or so (a bad thing in itself) but at least the plane doesn't turn into an intelligent bomb capable of doing what happened yesterday?
That the problem in a country so big that it need internal flights. I've heard on the news however that the US is quite relaxed on travel, maybe thats not right. But we sure have armed guards and stuff sometimes in the UK. I guess you don't want to be hassled with passports and stuff when just popping down the coast though..
Firstly, I totally give out my heart to everyone affected by this. I've sat watching the TV all day in horror.
One question (not trolling) I wonder what knowledge the US powers had on a possible strike this week? Granted, they wouldn't be able to do much about someone on a plane with a death wish, but I heard an interview with someone at Janes who suspected a hit this week.... maybe its just hearsay?
Carnivore isn't anything to get worried about, in fact i've heard its pretty useless. Try getting hold of the summer copy of 2600 magazine (http://www.2600.com) because there is a good article on the system there, showing it would be next to useless to try to gain intelligence on terrorist acts. For example, unless a court order is granted they can only snoop To: and From: info. You might want to check out http://www.epic.org/privacy/carnivore/foia_documen ts.html.
Aside, as my comments probably got buried in the other stories, I totally agree with people trying to calm down the reactionist (although understandable) mood around here. Attacking all known terrorist locations will kill many more innocent people, prehaps for nothing. Then you are no better than the terrorists, only with a false badge of legitimacy pinned to your chests.
As I said before though, I completely understand the feelings here. Its purely awful and evil. Just don't become hypocrites. And the people that are going around saying "bash the dot headers" etc make me SICK.
Thanks for your time. I hope you don't consider me trolling.
Can I just say that this is insane? Ok, you guys are upset that this happened in your country, and I totally emphasise with that, but everyone talking like this on a message board is purely lame.
I wonder how brave you would be if you had to face this thing on your doorstep every day? Or have in fact seen action?
As someone mentioned above, it is people like you that will bring on the end of the world. And then i'll be pissed off then.
People are talking about using standard wireless networking kit or there abouts to connect computers together... any further reach requires a more powerful raio transmitters at a high cost.
But guess what?
They all run of frequency bands similar to radio broadcasts, so none of that matters. By your rationale, everyone should be heating up by conventional broadcasts, let alone WLAN. Do you see this happening? In fact, i'm sitting next to a WLAN transmitter and have done for months. And i'm still around to point out to you that you are wrong.
WLAN uses around the 2.4ghz range - microwaves start the heating effect you talk about, but not until a minimum of 3ghz upwards.
So no, no health risks greater than background EM radiation. I'd be more worried about that microwave transmitter you stick to the side of your head when you phone someone on your mobile...
Re:Oh, yeah.. traffic sirens... That's just great.

The Sound of Safety?
·
· Score: 1
IIRC the sirens use broadband sound to allow you to pinpoint them better locationally, whereas this "new sound" uses narrowband sound. It is only the narrowband which gets the involuntary response so you wouldn't look at the direction of the siren...
I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but i'm tired and there is a *lot* of nested posts on this topic, too many to read through at work:)
Anyway, a UK TV programme showed footage of this "new sound" in action. They stuck a speaker on a security camera and got people to walk past it without knowing the location of the CCTV or anything about the test. Every time a PIR detected a person walking by it played the sound and everyone instinctively looked in the general direction of the camera, catching a good image of their face. They then tested people who were aware of the system and told them not to look up no matter what - and still the same knee-jerk response to the sound.
They then got some people to watch a horror/action film and do the same walk to try to emulate the sense of apprehension that store thieves may be feeling while stealing. Response to the sound was even greater and a better image was captured.
Finally they put the same set-up "in situ" in a shop and got a policeman who specialised in catching shoplifters and the techniques they use to avoid being caught. He had no idea about the speaker, and successfully avoided getting a good face image from any conventional cameras, but *still* got caught out by the new camera.
It all comes down primitive parts of the human brain interpreting the sound as a threat, making them turn to face the danger. This is similar to being in a wood at night and hearing a twig snap.
Oh, and a lot of ambulances around where I live use the broadband sound to allow you to pinpoint where they are - it really works

Yeah, like nuclear weapons! Oh wait, they kill thousands and thousands of innocent people... no matter.
If something like that happened, what makes you any better than the terrorists?
Meanwhile, all these hate mongerers keep on getting modded up for leaping to conclusions and wishing death on many innocent people...
