To be fair, in order for them to become compulsory, they'll have to go back and get legislation passed through both houses. Of course, anyone who gets their passport renewed will be required to get an ID card anyway (which in the UK is a large percentage of the population) so they'll be compulsory in everything but name.
Either way, it's a massive blow for civil rights in this country - they'll be storing obscene amounts of personal information, including the buzz-word of the moment, 'biometrics' in a central database that will need to be accessable by essentially every government department. Given this government's record for IT projects, I'm almost looking forward to the ID cards being introduced just to see how spectacularly the whole system fails.
I actually setup a VMWare machine with XP SP2 on it so that I could safely test out IE7 without having to a) Install SP2 and b) Risk screwing up the PC.
Certainly on older versions of Systemworks this isn't the case. My housemate came to me after being unable to account for 8Gb of used hard disk space, after much investigation it turned out that that 8Gb consisted of files that had been in Norton Protected Recycle bin when he uninstalled it and they were still there. In the end I had to use a DOS bootdisk to delete the folder structure and free up the space.
Cam = As it sounds - a handy-cam job by someone who manages to sneak a video camera into the theatre TS (Telesync) = Shot from the projection booth with a decent camera taking the audio feed straight from the source. VHS Screener = VHS Quality awards screener, usually with watermarking, B&W scenes or missing audio, getting less and less common these days TC (Telecine) = Produced by digitally scanning a physical film print, again with an audio feed straight from the souce. DVD Screener = DVD Quality awards screener. Same content as VHS screeners but much better quality DVD Rip = Usually ripped from retail DVDs, sometimes from pre-release disks DVD-R = Often an untouched copy of the retail DVD, sometimes they will have extra features removed to get the size down enough for a DVD5 HDTV = Ripped from a 720p or 1080i/p HDTV feed, usually pure TS (Transport Stream) format which can either be played back directly or encoded by the user as they see fit.
Compared to the Simpsons at Season 4 or the Simpsons now? I've watched all of season 17 of the Simpsons so far and it's just not funny any more - it's become a vaguely amusing sitcom.
Maybe if Futurama is brought back and becomes a sucess, Fox can finally kill off the dying cash cow that is the Simpsons and put it out of its misery.
We installed Windows XP Media Center Edition from the Windows Installation disc that we received from Dell. The computer would not let us delete the NTFS partition that contained our old Windows install, so we let the setup overwrite our Windows directory. The end result was a clean Windows install on a partition still cluttered with programs we neither wanted nor needed...
We then tried to install Windows MCE by booting from the DVD-ROM instead of by rebooting from Windows. This time we were able to get Windows Setup to delete the NTFS partition containing the previous install, and finally installed a clean copy of Windows.
It wouldn't let you format the drive because when you install from "windows" rather than booting off the CD, it copies the files to the hard disk before launching the setup process. i.e. Formatting the drive would delete the setup files that setup needs to run. When you boot off the CD, it copies the initial files into memory and only copies the actual windows files *after* you choose where and how to install it.
Especially when you consider that the vast majority of the software that is pirated in these countries is written and produced in the US and Europe, I fail to see how sending huge amounts of your GDP to foreign lands will help boost your economy.
It's highly unlikely as most distros bundle 2 or 3 of any given type of app with their releases. They can hardly accuse someone of monopolistic behaviour because they're including XMMS & Mplayer with their operating system, can they.
It's just a standard "This page has just been linked from Slashdot, if all you can see is an ASCII rendition of Goatse, then you'll be wanting to check the article history for the original content. We'll be rectifying it shortly" disclaimer.
a) Accept their judgement with good grace b) Grudgingly accept the judgement but state that you believe it to be in error c) Accuse the judge of breaking the law, of being biased against your clients and of generally being incompetant
If you're Jack Thompson you probably also do d) File a lawsuit against the judge for dismissing you.
He had over 33,000 different user agents to sort through - why don't you email him and offer to trawl through the 22,000 UAs making up the 5% of traffic that he didn't generate stats for.
I think you're confusing 'Labour' with 'New Labour' - making the BNP look decidedly left wing since 1997

Seamonkey has the functionality built in - no need to piss about with endless extensions.
Yes, because the world of IT staff is such a limited premise compared to the world of a book store owner, for example.
It's even dumber to state that someone is presenting pictures with Flash when they're actually using SVG.
Ah 64k of RAM (48k of which was available to the user), that takes me back.
Just out of interest, did you complain that Father Ted didn't accurately reflect the teachings of the Catholic Church?
You mean it didn't?!

Futurama is being resurrected and you're talking about Ariel Sharon?! You disgust me!
I predict a sudden upsurge in the sales of old video hardware on ebay.

It's just as likely to work the other way.

b) Grudgingly accept the judgement but state that you believe it to be in error
c) Accuse the judge of breaking the law, of being biased against your clients and of generally being incompetant

Looks like Sony aren't making it easy to get rid of their rootkit.
Most Spyware has fewer hoops to jump through to uninstall it.
Only if Ford marketed them as "Hit and run-mobiles"
Well why not?

The Register's competition based on this fact, spawned by the Australian government's worry over the security of their nuclear facility.
Wow, this article is right on the money, what with Microsoft and Yahoo announcing that they're going to link their IM networks.
