But human chess players also learn openings and endings and typical situations and startegies created by others. Most of the better players don't have to "think" what would happen next, they simply know. However, they still have to decide on a move leading to a situation they think they can handle better than their oponent.

Last but not least, in major turnaments the games usually last two days, and in the night between the players ask their staff for strategic aid.

Okay, what am I missing here? What does this have to do with terraforming Mars? Do you want to somehow ship the extracted CO2 to Mars?

Just one example: In 1989: Total CO2 Emissions from Illinois cement production was 1,345,950 tons[short tons]. The Space Shuttle can transport a max. of 29 (metric) tons into orbit. I guess you can all calculate how many starts it would need to ship all this CO2 to Mars. (AFAIK to terraform Mars we'd need much more CO2 than that anyways).

Maybe we can come back to that plan when we can beam CO2 to Mars ;-)

Well, actually you are not, but that shouldn't keep you from trying. 2nd example of using AltiVec: FP vector multiply-add instruction - a no-show on SSE(2) and 3DNow!. 3rd example: relies on the fact that x[i] and y[i] vectors stay the same - which they don't on the x86 SIMD extensions. So in those examples we already have some of the differences between AltiVec and the lesser SIMDs, others are more registers and better instructions for shuffeling data. IOW again MHz isn't everything - as shown by e.g. dnet rc5 scores.
