    Just use Firefox and be done with it, while all browsers have their faults (and features) Safari offers nothing unique (IMO) and Firefox most likely has a bigger team of coders behind it.

    And yet they use they use the exact same feature you are so pissed about it being in Safari.

    Will I agree with you that this is a pointless argument I would say the difference between this and the examples you list is that it's an application on my desktop which is sharing the information. Not two website which have no relation to my computer or the information stored therein.

    It still think people will complain just because they need something to complain about to get noticed an feel important. They will scream slippery slope and wave there arms never realizing that there is no slope....it's a minefield and we are all wearing rollerskates.

    I have the feeling you don't know how a browser works - it's not Slashdot that is sending the data, it's your browser. And if you are so paranoid about your privacy, you shouldn't be using any browser.

    What I don't understand is why does Apple even have iTunes as a program.

    Maybe because they knew that people didn't want the oh-so-cumbersome "easy" way, but an actual simple way to do it. And the fact that the combo out-sold the "easy" players very soon (despite being derided by everyone and their dog) probably means they were right.

    I think what myself and Nursie are basically saying is that Apple's dominance has nothing to do with conversionn or smoothness, it has more to do with brand name recognition at this point, and not the actual merits of the product (or lack thereof).

    Let me get this straight - you are actually claiming that the iPod became the most bought media player by far simply by "brand name recognition"? Where do you reckon that came from?

    Wrong. Else movies with version 2 wouldn't be affected.

    Funny, my Dell XPS running windows XP seems to be DRM-free on a hardware level.

    Well, then it doesn't have a DisplayPort or a HDMI.

    A 2007 MacBook.

    The fact that the same video will play fine on a 2007 Mac but refuse to play on a 2008 Mac proves that the copy protection is not necessary -- if it was necessary it would be applied to all computers equally.

    The great irony is that you can boot into Vista on your 2008 Macbook and play the same video.

    And be subject to the exact same DRM - it's in the fucking display connector.

    In retrospect, I will concede to the first point, that it is Unix certified. I was speaking primarily of Linux-designed software, so I was mistaken there. My other points, however, still stand.

    So the Linux lock-in is Apple's fault.

    Hey, great, a OSS Adblock software that requires you have the latest OS. Yeah, I'd pay to use that.

    It's GPL. If you want to make it work on older operating systems, you're welcome to download the code, figure out why it doesn't work, and submit a patch. If they don't like your patch, you can fork it. Don't complain that the work other people are willing to share with you isn't good enough; they don't owe you anything.

    No thanks - in a world where you can freely download music and videos of the internet, "free" software better be perfect without me having to do anything.

    He isn't apologizing, the Wikipedia editors basically did what he wanted - because they actually agreed he was right. According to them, none of the passages he complained about belonged in (German language) Wikipedia article according to the policies. And before somebody asks - no, his part about his membership in the Stasi was not removed, because that was never one of the things he complained about.
