  1. Reminds me of... on Website Posts Partial SSNs of Politicians in Protest · · Score: 1

.... when I worked on a privacy initiative in washington state 3 years ago. One of our ideas for getting money was to mail possible contributers information about themselves which we bought in bulk. The line was something like - "do you think we should have this information? We don't. If you value your privacy please consider .......blablabla"

It ultimately panned out to be way too time consuming personalizing individual letters, but if we thought of it earlier we probably could have rounded up enough money=signatures to take it to the polls.

by the way what do you think those safeway cards are really for?

not too bad. not too good either. then again the site is down so I haven't been impressed yet with its compactness.

The one thing I don't understand is why they put ps/2 ports in it and 4 at that. I would think that in trying to achieve a minimal form factor they would do away with the legacy/unneccesary connectors that just take up room. Why would anyone use serial for keyboards/mice anyway? Apple hasn't for 5 for so years and they seem to be coping well. USB should have completely replaced it years ago, in all PC's.

I actually like the mini pc concept though. To make it viable it should have a much higher cost/practicality ratio than this to a laptop. I see it being used more as an embedded solution for presentations, or just having a small box to doing webdev stuff on, separate from a main system. Personally I would opt for a laptop, but it still could have a market, albeit a small one

Outlook should have taught everyone a lesson about how secure their systems are. And of course, these problems are coming from Microsoft's attempt at tighter integration with outlook.

I don't know whether to be mad at the spammers, or to laugh at the people to actually trust Microsoft with their privacy, or anything for that matter.

First of all they're now throwing in Cinema Tools for free, until now it costed a grand, then on top of that they are adding two new apps one for awseom titling the other for pro audio scoring, and on top of that they have added a slew of new and enhanced features with which the update could arguably have stood on its own.

The added value is just amazing. They effectively cut the total cost in half, while almost doubling the original value at the same time. Use this with their newly acquired shake for compositing and logic for audio, and you have a system which will make Avid tremble over thoughts of mass migration away from their quarter million dollar platforms, in favor of cheap and nearly as effective software based systems.

Apple has strengthened themselves against destruction. If the consumer thing ends up not working out. They can always go back to their pro market.

  8. Re:I'm jazzed on Nucular Hydrogen Economy · · Score: 1

Okay, are you talking about the same 1997 Kyoto accord which Bush withdrawled(wd?) the US from in 2001 just before international ratification? If so I would love to inform you that we were there but due to Bush's absolute love and respect for our environment he decided that the CO2 restrictions on our poor multinational energy corporations were just too strict for them to give their CEO's that extra million in their Holiday bonus. The US has around 4% of the worlds population yet produces upwards of 26% of the world's CO2 emmisions(figure which I believe to be underrated as it is). George W. Bush has done nothing but, further this problem in favor of helping out his rich, campaign contributing friends in the energy sector. Bush doesn't give a shit about a pro environmental policy unless it lines his political pockets. Oh did I forget to mention Bush's recent 1970 Clean Air Act clause in which exempted Power Plants (Primarily Coal) built before 1970 from basic pollution controls which have been enacted for more than 30 years. I could go on and on. That being said I believe "cleaner" nuclear power deserves greater research. It very well could be proven as one viable solution to coal and other fossil fuels, but as I see it the hydrogen extraction is just a ruse to make the nukes seem more environmentally friendly, when in fact we have already proven other forms of extraction to be more effective then what they even claim. Wind and solar are not a pipe dream, they are real already proven endeavors that have been hampered more by lack of adoption the actually technology under them. If the US becomes a cleaner place out of the adoption of nukes it would be foolish to credit it as the intention of Bush's policy. Alternative forms of transportation have the ability to lessen C02 emissions and many other pollutants more then hydrogen ever will. Not to lessen Hydrogen's importance but rethinking our entire transportation infrastructure could make all of this talk about nuke insignificant.

Not having real close hand observation however of their behavior and make-up, seems to me to be a little bit risky. Why don't we wait until we know what all the effects of this will be, before destroying the planet.

Would also be a good idea not to let Bush get his hands on this tech either. He's trying to bring back tactical nukes now, this will just put too many ideas into his tiny little brain.

As far as the shareware issue goes at least since EV Nova they have been much more successful in protecting their software from piracy.

As a mac user the only benefit I see from this is that 1. they may have a chance to stay in business and 2. more people will be out there making plug-ins for the EV series.
