    Buy LCDs sold in Europe. Here in Norway we've got 5 years warranty against manufacturing issues, so they'll have to be built to last! Keep away from the nonames.

    My 42" LCD is over 4 years, and has probably been on for half of those - picture is as good now as it was when I bought it. Only reason to upgrade is that I want LED back-light strips and bigger screen area.

    I've never seen an European car with automatic beat a manual on the mileage. Ever!

    Automatics are still more costly, more expensive with regards to maintenance, and also when you look at the fuel consumption.

    And also, automatics are more boring to drive - I probably would fall a sleep and end up in a ditch if I had one... :D

    No - that's why you need government to fund stuff. People don't want to do anything unless they see the immediate return on investment. Donate to doctors / engineers without border and feel instant gratification. Donate to some science thing, and there might be something in 10-15 years being developed because of it. No, we can't trust the public to fund something that's 10-15 or even more years down the road.

    In addition, most people claiming that "Gimp is not suitable for professional use" have never used Photoshop for professional use either. (Not saying all, but some of the most loudly ones for sure!) They're just repeating something they heared long time ago.
